(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check)NoJob DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.As a member of the Laboratory Medicine leadership team, the Molecular /Clinical Cytogeneticist is anticipated to provide clinical and technical leadership for the Molecular/Cytogenetics diagnostics laboratory including participation in setting strategic direction, goals and objectives, quality assurance programs, protocol, procedure and policy development. The position is responsible for the daily assessment of clinical and technical problems, providing guidance and direction including methodology, policy and procedure in the laboratory to meet best practices.The Clinical Cytogeneticist plays a key role in the activities affecting the Laboratory and its clients and also contributes to the delivery of patient care with the Clinical Geneticists, Genetic Counsellors in Medical Genetics and as a consultant for other health practitioners.The incumbent may also have the opportunity for a cross-appointment with the University of British Columbia (UBC) Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine that includes teaching responsibilities for fellows, residents, and undergraduate students as well as opportunities for clinical researchQUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperiencePhD or MD in Clinical Cytogenetics and certification/eligibility with the Canadian College of Medical Genetics (CCMG). Specialty interest/significant background in Molecular Diagnostics and/or CCMG certification in Molecular Genetics or equivalent. Knowledge of micro array techniques etc. and applicability to cytogenetic analysis is an asset.Skills And Abilities
