Competition number:PF 25-015Salary:$64,083.00 - $70,507.00/YearJob Type:Permanent Full TimeClosing Date:September 12, 2025Position Overview:Under the general supervision of the Shift Supervisor, this position is responsible for receiving all emergency and routine calls for service from within pre-designated areas in Southern New Brunswick and dispatching appropriate Emergency Service Providers as the situation warrants. Responsibilities also include working rotating shifts as the Centre is operational 24/7/365.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receives 911 emergency calls for communities within Southern New Brunswick; maintains contact with the emergency caller, transfers the caller if required and all pertinent information to the appropriate emergency service provider.
  • Receives emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatches for Saint John Police, Saint John Fire Departments, including other local service areas.
  • Questions the caller, gathers information, and enters the information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Monitors and records movements and status changed of responding units for each call.
  • Reads maps and provides routing instructions to emergency service providers.
  • Advises the responder of the initial and relevant background information on the situation and keeps responders updated of any changes.
  • Provides the caller with post dispatch and pre-arrival instructions where required.
  • Provides support to the caller until responder arrive on the scene, where appropriate.
  • Makes notifications and conducts callouts for emergency service providers.
  • Queries persons, vehicles, and articles on the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) system and provides the information to police upon request.
  • Retrieves and updates information pertaining to criminal records and provides assistance to the Records Unit with records maintenance and entries.
  • Attends court, on an as required basis.
  • Liaises with external agencies with respect to equipment failure, inaccurate 911 information, tracing calls, etc.
  • Uses computer, telephone set, 2-way radio, Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) database and general office equipment.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Keyboarding skills of at least 35WPM
  • Must be security cleared and successfully complete all requirements of the Public Safety Operator Training Program
  • Bilingualism (proficiency in French of Intermediate Plus (2+) as per the Province of New Brunswick Oral Proficiency Rating Scale)
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • The successful candidate must possess a diploma in Office Administration from NBCC or Business Certificate 1 from UNB, or an equivalent program.
