Visit us today and check out to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.About the OpportunityUnder the direction of the Manager - Community Wellness and Supports - Mental Health and Addictions, the Community Outreach Worker is responsible for providing outreach services, including group programming, brief and early intervention, and case management for adult outpatients in the Pictou community. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Outreach Worker must be knowledgeable and utilize principles from harm reduction, community development, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed practice. The Outreach Worker provides a wide range of services in the community and our clinics, including screening, assessment, referral, navigation, early and brief intervention, and group programming. The Outreach worker will be supporting and collaborating with various communities in Cumberland and the surrounding area. The Outreach Worker must have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work
  • Registered with relevant regulatory body NSCSW
  • One (1) year post BSW experience in community outreach, group facilitation, early/ brief intervention, adult engagement, and community development
  • Knowledge regarding the principles of community health, outreach, harm reduction, health promotion and prevention (e.g., mental health, addictions, housing support etc.).
  • High level oral, written and group facilitation skills along with excellent problem-solving skills and experience with conflict resolution
  • A well-developed awareness of community resources
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with limited supervision
  • Travel is required, flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends is required.
  • High level of Computer software knowledge (PowerPoint, Excel, and willingness to learn ASSIST Training)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention, Standard First Aid, CPR, suicide risk assessment and intervention training, Mental Health First Aid required.
  • Demonstrated ability to function and participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Annually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by NSH
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
