This is a 40-hour work week involving various shifts and various off days.Upon successful completion of the Light Rail Vehicle Technician training program, which requires the successful passing of all tests and completion of sign-off sheets. Candidates will be re-classified as a Light Rail Vehicle Technician (WG12) and will be assigned to the first available vacancy in accordance with the Maintenance Seniority Regulations.This is a great chance to be part of a dedicated team. - Acquiring all required skill sets/competencies as prescribed by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development and the Ontario College of Trades.
- Working under the direction of a Light Rail Vehicle Technician and Engineering Technologist to acquire knowledge and skills on a variety of vehicle systems and components.
- Varied duties including diverse, and complex inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosis, testing, adjustment, maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification and/or replacement work performed on streetcar vehicles (revenue and non-revenue).
- Working on all electrical (both alternating and direct current), electronic, microprocessor, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and systems associated with the propulsion, braking, suspension, HVAC, door, coupler, auxiliary systems, air supply systems and power supply/conversion systems found on streetcar vehicles.
- Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within your area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.
- Training obtained through completion of a 2-year Community College diploma in mechanical, electronic, electrical, electro-mechanical or avionics technology, or the completion of a red seal trade license, i.e. but not limited to 310T, 310S, 421A, 433A, Aviation Technician), in a relevant field combined with work experience, consideration will also be given to registered apprentices in the recognizable trade.
- Successful completion of Community College courses approved by the TTC in hydraulics, pneumatics, and vehicle air conditioning or equivalent specialized training.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must possess a valid non-probationary Class “G” or better Ontario driver's license, with the ability to upgrade to a "DZ" driver's license.
- Must attend and successfully complete various Training and Development department programs, including, but not limited to obtain an Ozone Depletion Card; Streetcar/Subway Rule Book and acquire certification for the operation of streetcar vehicle operations, and non-revenue vehicle operations for forklift truck, transfer table/trackmobile operations, road service truck and truck trailer, and scissor lift.
- Must be able to pass tests set by the TTC which correspond in content to the knowledge, theory and/or the practical requirements described above.
- Must provide and maintain a set of hand tools as per the established tool list.
