- Process corrections for abstracts for data quality.
- Maintain the computerized abstracting system.

- Graduated from an approved Health Information Management Program.
- Canadian College of Health Information Management (CHIM) Certified and current active membership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
- Demonstrated ability to code/abstract in the current CIHI and BC Ministry of Health standard classification system.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computerized coding and abstracting systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology.
- Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing, work effectively with others, and interpersonal skills

- Perform coding and abstracting duties for various databases such as CIHI Discharge Abstract Database, Trauma Registry, Canadian Neonatal Network, and BC Perinatal Database.
- Ensure data quality by reviewing data capture for accuracy and completeness and assessing documentation within patient records.
- Contribute to the development of data definitions, modeling, and design activities.
- Complete period end functions and system updates/corrections, ensuring appropriate coding and abstracting for discharged patients.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and service excellence, making recommendations and implementing changes as needed.
- Provide data for specific projects, including research and administrative assignments, by collecting, analyzing, and forwarding information as requested.
- Assist in presenting statistical information to various parties, including hospital departments, committees, and outside agencies.
- Contribute to policy and procedure development by reviewing existing policies, identifying problems or inefficiencies, evaluating technical literature, and making recommendations.
- Serve on organizational committees, acting as a liaison and resource person for Health Information Management, providing advice on codes, classification, and data collection, and making recommendations as needed.
