Working more hours as a casual staff member will build your seniority hours; this will open more opportunities for you when applying for internal vacancies.the position promotes a safe and respectful working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.As a Food Service Worker / Barista with VCH you will:
  • Carry out a variety of duties according to Food Safe protocols and quality and safety standards, which includes duties such as:
  • portioning and serving meals
  • assisting with food production by washing and peeling vegetables and fruit
  • preparing coffee/tea and toast, portioning desserts and assembling sandwiches and salads
  • preparing and portioning diet items in accordance with nutritional plans
  • measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients by methods such as grinding, blending, slicing, dicing and/or puree.
  • Check patient/resident meals/trays to ensure dietary accuracy.
  • Strip wagons/trays, wash dishes and pots, clean food wagons, kitchen equipment, fridges and storage areas and wipe down tables and counter areas.
  • Sweep and damp mop floors and remove garbage.
  • Deliver wagons/trays to patient/resident units.
  • Retrieve and store food items.
  • Replenish food, beverage and paper supplies.
  • Perform related clerical duties.
  • May operate a cash register and related equipment, receive payments and provide change for items purchased.
  • Answer customer queries.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Grade 10 plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Food Safe Certificate Level.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
