
Food Service Worker - Casual/On-Call

- Carry out a variety of duties according to Food Safe protocols and quality and safety standards, which includes duties such as:
- portioning and serving meals
- assisting with food production by washing and peeling vegetables and fruit
- preparing coffee/tea and toast, portioning desserts and assembling sandwiches and salads
- preparing and portioning diet items in accordance with nutritional plans
- measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients by methods such as grinding, blending, slicing, dicing and/or puree.
- Check patient/resident meals/trays to ensure dietary accuracy.
- Strip wagons/trays, wash dishes and pots, clean food wagons, kitchen equipment, fridges and storage areas and wipe down tables and counter areas.
- Sweep and damp mop floors and remove garbage.
- Deliver wagons/trays to patient/resident units.
- Retrieve and store food items.
- Replenish food, beverage and paper supplies.
- Perform related clerical duties.
- May operate a cash register and related equipment, receive payments and provide change for items purchased.
- Answer customer queries.
- Grade 10 plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Food Safe Certificate Level.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
