- Build and repair aluminum sign supports, wooden barricades, and A-frames to keep our streets organized
- Perform small repairs and routine maintenance on specialized vehicles like picker trucks, bucket trucks, and paint trucks, as well as electronic message board trailers
- Keep our operations running smoothly by performing rough carpentry, repairing building facilities, and maintaining grounds and HVAC filters
- Utilize and maintain a wide array of tools, including grinders, jackhammers, generators, and overhead hoists
- Participate in daily hazard assessments and safety meetings to ensure the entire crew remains safe
- Prepare vehicle loads, track material stock, and transport equipment to various job sites across the city
- Completion of Grade 10
- One (1) year of experience in building and mechanical maintenance repair work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Perform and assist in the manufacturing of aluminum sign supports, brackets, wooden barricades, and A-frames
- Maintain electronic message board and arrowboard trailers
- Conduct small repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, including picker trucks, bucket trucks, and paint trucks
- Participate in the cleaning, painting, and general maintenance of buildings and grounds, including rough carpentry and minor plumbing
- Prepare material orders, check stock levels, and maintain records of materials used
- Operate forklifts, trucks, trailers, and overhead hoists to move traffic control materials
- Prioritize daily and weekly work assignments and transport equipment/materials to various job sites
- Document activities and time requirements while coaching and mentoring less experienced laborers
- Adhere strictly to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and essential safety measures
- Perform regular hazard assessments and field inspections to ensure the crew is working safely
- Proficiency in the Google suite of applications

- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is required
- Successful candidates must be fit for a respirator; compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment is required
- Compliance with safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, gloves, and coveralls
- Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR-C, and AED certifications
- Applicants may be tested
- Role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and/or indoors in shop settings
- Exposure to environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, dust, noise, vibrations, and chemicals
- Completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks, including lifting items up to 50 pounds, requiring physical stamina and resilience
