An equal opportunity employer prizing diversity, integrity and collaboration, we are committed to growing MDA’s and Canada’s leadership in this next golden age.RoleThe Intermediate Power Electronics PCB Designer will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of hardware designers working on the design, implementation, and validation of Power electronics Printed Circuit Board (PCB) used in satellites and other space-based systems. This may include applications such as motor drive units, DC power systems, Digital-Analog Telemetry, and associated control circuits for space applications using new space technologies.Responsibilities
  • Apply the different aspects of Electronics Power Circuit hardware design for space environment under the supervision of a senior technical authority.
  • Convert requirements into a board design concept.
  • Complete the schematic capture level design.
  • Manage design layout constraints definitions.
  • Perform design simulations (LTSpice, BoardSim) and various design analyses (ex: worst case, FMECA).
  • Support and review parts placement and PCB layout.
  • Prepare Material list and assembly drawings.
  • Oversee parts managements including long lead items, bill of materials, and parts qualifications for space.
  • Assist the preparation of detailed review documents.
  • Respect Design for Manufacture/Test in the space environment.
  • Interact with various specialties (structure, thermal, packaging, manufacturing, quality assurance, etc.).
  • Provide manufacturing activity support for the electronics PCB and unit assembly as well as testing activities.
  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of EPC boards and units.
  • Support environmental and functional tests.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing high-frequency, high-efficiency “Full Bridge” power supply and printed circuit boards (PCB).
  • Good understanding of electronic circuits and Ultra-high efficiency EPC design using synchronous rectifier MOS transistors (eGaN preferred) with PCB design experience.
  • High frequency power supply above 200 kHz (up to 1 MHz desired).
  • Use of MOS transistors insensitive to radiation (preferably eGaN).
  • Design of low-cost, discrete, high-performance isolated gate driver circuits for MOS transistors.
  • Knowledgeable about PCB manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in conducting analyses (FMECA, WCA, EMC, power budget analysis, etc.).
  • Knowledgeable about part types and at ease with datasheets.
  • Knowledge of space radiation effects on parts is an asset.
  • Lab experience with electronic circuits and laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscope, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, arbitrary waveform generator.
  • Proficient experience in schematic entry (ex: Mentor Xpedition, PADS, OrCAD).
  • Knowledge of satellite design requirements (radiation, high reliability).
  • Fluent in English and French is an asset.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ideal candidate would be pro-active, enthusiastic, and result-oriented team player.
