- Dust and polish desks and furniture; empty and clean waste paper baskets in offices
- Clean and disinfect vertical and horizontal surfaces; perform mopping and vacuuming
- Complete cleaning, disinfecting and servicing of washroom, kitchen areas and locker room facilities daily
- Remove graffiti from non-porous surfaces
- Use heavy cleaning equipment and supplies for washing, sweeping, stripping, waxing and polishing floors, and steam cleaning carpets
- Move audio-visual equipment, platforms, tables, chairs and office furniture for cleaning purposes or event setup and take-down
- Report when minor repairs are required
- Keep records of attendance, operations and repairs, including both written and data entry
- Secure and lock gates and doors of buildings and City property
- Follow established cleaning procedures and perform other related duties as required
- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year experience in custodial work (an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered)
- Knowledge of and experience with approved cleaning techniques, procedures, and equipment
- Committed to safety using occupational health and safety and environmental standards
- Completion or enrolment in a Building Service Worker Program from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Able to understand, communicate, read, and write English at a level needed to meet safety requirements
- Customer service driven; ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated trust and responsibility in the performance of independent duties
- Ability to perform duties according to a work schedule under minimum supervision
- Physical strength and agility to perform light and heavy custodial duties involving reaching, bending, lifting, and squatting

- Successful candidates must be fit for a respirator; compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment is required
- Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Security Clearance check by Edmonton Police Service satisfactory to the City
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent); obtaining a City Driver's permit may be required
- Ability to work a variety of shifts on a 24/7 shift cycle (2 days off per week) at assigned locations
- Applicants may be tested
- Ability to work in various environments, including exposure to dust, noise, and various weather conditions
- Availability to work at a variety of different work locations across the City
