By meticulously managing, drafting, and executing critical legal documentation, this role ensures compliance, mitigates risk, and streamlines essential transactions. The incumbent's expertise in legal processes, document management, and technology adoption directly contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the legal department, supporting business initiatives and fostering strong internal and external relationships.The Senior Law Clerk will provide support in the coordination and execution of legal documentation, agreements, and initiatives within the business.What you’ll do:Transactions & Projects:First point of contact for business requests relating to franchise documentsReview and revise franchise disclosure packagesConduct and report on due diligence searchesDraft transactional agreements relating to franchise grants, renewals, and amendmentsEnsure that security registrations are made and maintainedLiaise with business colleagues to ensure execution and retention of key contractsWork with in-house legal counsel on various transactions and projectsDocument Templates:Create and revise template documents, including those relating to franchise grants, share purchase transactionsUpdate franchise disclosure documents on an annual basis, including executing internal verification procedures to capture changes in material factsProcesses and Tools:Maintain precedent database/version controlOngoing contact with IT department to implement new technologies and improve contract compilation toolsChampion records management processesManage spreadsheets to provide support to the businessWhat you’ll bring:Attention to detailCompletion of Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario Law Clerk ProgramMinimum 5 years of experience in a Law Clerk role preferredExpertise in the area of franchising is an assetExcellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skillsSuperb communication skills, both written and verbalStrong relationship building skills both internal and external of the legal departmentTeam player, comfortable in a highly collaborative environment and has the ability to work independentlyKeen attention to detail, Process-orientedProficient with MS Office SuiteStrong interest in, and experience with, new technologies for law practice managementFluency of the French language is an assetWhy work at Shoppers Drug Mart?Acting as consultants, supporting internal customers and the Associate-Owners, you will get experience unique to the retail industry while working for an award-winning national brand.
