
Utility Distribution Designer

- Job Description
- Perform site visits to determine the nature of work required (poles, conductors, anchors, equipment condition assessment)
- Utilize GIS data to design overhead & underground distribution networks
- Research land ownership; make easement applications
- Prepare construction drawings for proposed distribution systems (OH and UG)
- Produce job estimates, bills of material, labour & enter material acquisition requests
- Circulate proposed plans for review and comment by utility and city stakeholders
- Complete applications for all applicable municipality construction permits
- Coordinate project schedules with utilities and contractors
- Design and/or verification of third-party attachments on utility poles and obtain approvals
- Interact with internal / external contacts as necessary for design details
- Produce regular project status update reports
- Review of designs in order to ensure accuracy, perform quality control and quality checks prior to project release
- Ensure completed work adheres to engineering and construction standards and Ontario Regulation 22/04
- Prepare as-built construction drawings
- Profile
- A College Degree in a related field
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in developing designs for overhead pole lines, underground duct and conduit systems and residential subdivision systems
- Working knowledge of overhead and underground distribution construction standards, Familiar with CSA standard
- Working knowledge of CAD in the preparation of line design drawings (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation)
- Working knowledge on various Utility GIS platforms for accessing electrical asset data
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, Ability to create effective working relationships with fellow employees, clients' representatives, government agencies and the public
- Knowledge of Ontario Local Distribution Company Standards and system applications in the GTA will be considered as an advantage
- Good standing and records with OACETT; can be an advantage
- Valid Class G (Ontario) driving licence
