In addition, Lincoln Electric is committed to the development of new and innovative technologies with value added products and services that respond to customer needs.Business UnitThe Automation Division is responsible for providing engineered solutions, integrated systems, automation programming and technical support to Lincoln Electric’s ongoing sales efforts specifically focused upon fume extraction, flexible and hard automation products and services.Automation is further responsible for the provision of technical support to direct end-user customers for service / maintenance contracts and warrantee related solutions, as well as, troubleshooting and problem solving with respect to customer issues.The Automation Team is expected to deliver results while contributing to Lincoln Electric’s ongoing business activities and priorities, as well as, meeting internal and external customer requirements in a timely, discreet and ethical manner.Position SummaryWe are seeking a Senior Quotation Engineering Specialist to lead customer-facing application development for Mechanized welding automated solutions. This role is responsible for evaluating customer welding applications (SAW, MIG, TIG), developing conceptual system designs, defining turnkey automation solutions, and owning the technical and commercial proposal process.This position plays a critical role at the intersection of engineering, sales, and business, ensuring technically sound solutions while maintaining company pricing strategy and target profit margins.Major ResponsibilitiesCustomer Application & Technical Assessment
- Engage directly with customers to evaluate welding applications, production requirements, and quality expectations
- Analyze part geometry, materials, joint design, tolerances, and volumes for MIG, SAW, and TIG welding
- Determine automation feasibility, risks, and recommended welding processes
- Define cycle times, throughput, and quality expectations
- Conceptual System Design & Turnkey Solutions
- Mechanized or Robotic welding cells
- Fixturing and material handling concepts
- Welding power sources, torches, and peripherals
- Safety, controls, and integration scope
- Define system scope, assumptions, and exclusions
- Collaborate with internal engineering, controls, and manufacturing teams to validate concepts
- Support turnkey solution development from concept through order handover
- Lead the preparation of technical and commercial proposals
- Develop costing sheets, including:
- Equipment and component costs
- Engineering, integration, installation, and commissioning
- Risk and contingency considerations
- Calculate selling price in accordance with company pricing strategy
- Ensure proposals meet target profit margins
- Support negotiations with technical justification and scope clarity
- Act as the technical authority during the pre-sales process
- Participate in customer meetings, presentations, and technical reviews
- Address technical questions and clarify scope during proposal discussions
- Support transition from sales to project execution after order award
- Capture lessons learned from projects and customer feedback
- Support development of standard concepts, costing models, and proposal tools
- Stay current with advancements in welding processes and automation technologies
- Mentor junior application engineers as required
- To report directly to the Application Engineering Manager on an ongoing basis and communicate all relevant matters pertaining to the business unit within the company.
- Mentoring and training new Quotation Engineering Specialist and Coops.
- Providing in-house demonstrations and tours, as necessary.
- To work with people from all levels of the Division and Company.
- To actively participate in company, staff or individual meetings on an ongoing basis for the purposes of effective teamwork, enhanced communication and progressive cooperation strategies within the department as well ad other departments across the company.
- To participate co-operatively as an employee within the company Performance Appraisal Process and Merit Rating System.
- To continually contribute to the profitability of the company and ongoing business operations by initiating, recommending and implementing continuous improvement strategies and initiatives.
- To fully abide and actively support Lincoln Electric’s Environmental Health & Safety policies, practices and procedures with respect to protecting the environment, the conservation of nature resources and the Health & Safety of all employees.
- Engineering degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Welding Engineering, 4 Years Program
- More than 8 years of experience in welding automation or application engineering
- Experience with design and sales of mechanized automation solutions such as welding column & boom, turning equipment, gantries, side beams, etc.
- Background in heavy fabrication, structural steel, pressure vessels, or large weldments
- Experience working with pricing strategies, margin targets, and cost models
- Experience with robotic welding systems (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, etc.)
- Understanding of fixturing, material handling, and automation safety standards
- Strong hands-on and application knowledge of MIG, SAW, and TIG welding
- Proven experience developing conceptual system designs and turnkey automation solutions
- Demonstrated experience in costing, pricing, and proposal development
- Ability to balance technical risk with commercial objectives
- Excellent customer-facing communication and presentation skills
- Must be able to travel in the US and Canada
- Accurate application assessments with minimal downstream changes
- Competitive, well-scoped proposals that meet margin targets
- Strong customer confidence in proposed solutions
- Smooth handover from sales to execution with clear scope definition
