- Act as the design authority for products in manufacture, providing support for failure analysis and development for Ciena and contract manufacturer engineers.
- Collaborate with R&D and Operations teams to define production requirements and specifications for processes and tests.
- Develop and maintain process and assembly tools in manufacturing, driving continuous improvements in design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Review and update PFMEA to ensure product reliability and quality.
- Lead training programs for contract manufacturer operators and engineers, ensuring knowledge transfer and operational excellence.
- Manage product lifecycle from launch to mass production, tracking yields and implementing cost reduction plans through BOM management.
- Work with Test Engineering to create automated analysis tools and key performance indicators (KPIs) for product performance monitoring.
- Develop packaging materials for products and establish recycling programs to align with sustainability goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and 5+ years of experience in designing, manufacturing, or testing optoelectronic products.
- Solid understanding of optical device principles, including lasers, modulators, detectors, optical sub-assemblies, and transceivers.
- Expertise in production processes for optoelectronic device manufacturing.
- Proven track record in product lifecycle management and launching complex optoelectronic module products to market.
- Strong problem-solving skills, capable of resolving technical issues in high-pressure environments locally and remotely.
- Experience working in a global marketplace with multi-functional, multi-locational teams, demonstrating excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer and analytical tools, including database management and data analysis.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%, primarily within North America and Asia, to support product transfer and manufacturing.
- Advanced degree or certifications in photonics or optoelectronics.
- Familiarity with global manufacturing standards and sustainability practices.
- Experience in developing automated testing frameworks for optoelectronic products.
- Knowledge of advanced packaging materials and recycling technologies.
- Expertise in statistical process control (SPC) and quality assurance methodologies.
- Proficiency in programming languages for data analysis and automation.
- Experience with supplier management in a global manufacturing context.
