Here, you can apply your passion and collaborate with top environmental professionals on work that’s vital to our clients and the communities they serve.Join a team that’s naturally committed to the environment.We are currently seeking a talented and ambitious Senior Aquatic Biologist to grow our fisheries team based in one of our Stantec offices in either Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba.. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and leading fisheries related tasks and deliverables for projects in a variety of sectors (e.g., mining, oil and gas, power generation) across Western Canada and the Territories. The successful candidate will join our team of freshwater fisheries and aquatic biologists who value teamwork and will help shape our fisheries practice in the Prairies and Territories.Your Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the primary resource and contact for clientsManage, plan and lead freshwater fisheries programs. (fish, fish habitat and water quality)Understand recent and existing practices and techniques for sampling and analysis of fisheries, habitat and water data from streams, rivers, and lakesCoordinate and oversee field programsManage tasks and projects according to approved scopes of work, and deliver quality reports on schedule and within budgetProvide senior review for a variety of reportsDevelop and maintain positive client and regulatory contactsProvide understanding of project goals and sound environmental project advise to clientsContribute to the professional development of junior and intermediate environmental staff through training, technical direction, and mentorshipContribute to proposals and other business development activitiesServe as interdisciplinary liaison within StantecEmbrace and promote Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all workTravel is required throughout Western Canada and the Territories for projects, client liaison and business developmentYour Capabilities and CredentialsStrong knowledge of federal and provincial fisheries regulationsExperience in a variety of aquatic survey methods including fish community surveys, fish habitat assessments, and electrofishingProven technical, communication, writing and organization skillsAbility to maintain flexibility, meet deadlines in a dynamic environment, and work independently with minimal supervisionExperience in developing field programs and methods to meet specific project objectivesExperience in leading field crews in execution of fish and fish habitat field programs, and leading staff in data management, data analysis and report preparationExperience in HSSE guidelines for all workExperience in construction monitoring and environmental management planningStrong project management and senior technical review skillsExperience in business development, working with and advising clients, and proposal writingAbility to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environmentExperience with mentoring and training environmental staffEducation and ExperienceA Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Fisheries is required, graduate degree preferred.Registered Professional Biologist or Technologist accreditation required.Minimum of 10 years of experience as a fisheries biologist with consulting experience.Knowledge of current provincial and federal government regulatory requirements and regulatory authorities. (e.g., Canada Energy Regulator, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, etc.)Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
