The Advancement Services Team supports the founding of new scholarships and bursaries as well as innovative programs and initiatives contributing to state-of-the-art campus spaces.About the RoleReporting to the Director, Advancement Services & Annual Giving, the Foundation Communications Officer is a specialist focused on developing donor-centered content that advances and supports the fundraising and community engagement goals of the Mount Royal University Foundation. This role provides strategic oversight and expert content development across Annual Giving, Leadership Giving, and Development portfolios. From everyday donor storytelling to complex case for support writing and principal gift proposals, the Foundation Communications Officer ensures consistent, compelling messaging that advances fundraising priorities.ResponsibilitiesContent Creation & Development - 45%
  • Develops donor-centered content that inspires action and supports revenue generation.
  • Researches, drafts, and refines compelling donor communications including solicitation appeals, proposals, campaign messaging, and cases for support.
  • Collaborates with fundraisers and campus partners to translate institutional priorities and academic programs into accessible, persuasive narratives tailored for donor audiences.
  • Interacts with diverse internal and external stakeholders to collect compelling stories and insights that inform and enhance fundraising communications.
  • Writes and updates program descriptions, donor collateral, and print/digital content that communicates the impact and goals of institutional initiatives.
  • Acts as the primary liaison to Marketing and Communications for Foundation-specific content needs, shaping donor messaging and story direction while ensuring alignment with MRU's brand.
Communications Strategy & Content Planning - 25%
  • Guide content strategy across donor touchpoints to ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment with fundraising priorities.
  • Identify new story opportunities and messaging themes to engage donor audiences.
  • Provide strategic input on content approaches based on donor engagement trends, audience insights, and fundraising goals.
Cross-Functional Fundraising Support - 20%
  • Partner with Annual & Leadership Giving teams to develop timely, targeted cultivation and solicitation content.
  • Works with Development (Major & Planned Gifts) to support high-value proposals and principal gift communications.
  • Collaborate with Donor Relations to support stewardship communications by contributing writing capacity, shared messaging, or content sourcing as needed.
  • Engages external stakeholders directly when needed to source content.
  • Lead communications pieces and support execution of events in collaboration with Donor Relations
Content Performance & Resource Management - 10%
  • Analyze and track basic engagement metrics (e.g., email opens, web visits) in collaboration with Digital Engagement Officer to optimize messaging.
  • Manage content intake and delivery workflows with fundraising and engaged audiences.
  • Manage a library of approved content, donor stories, proposals, and messaging assets for team-wide use in conjunction with Donor Relations.
Qualifications
  • Three or four year bachelor degree or equivalent
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for diverse donor audiences and fundraising materials.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning capabilities, particularly related to message development, campaign alignment, and audience engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with key audiences (e.g., donors, faculty, students) and collaborating across teams.
  • Comfortable working independently, managing deadlines, and prioritizing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with technical tools including Google Workspace, Raiser's Edge (Database View and NXT); experience with platforms such as Google Analytics and Mailchimp is an asset.
  • Experience writing donor communications or other philanthropic materials is an asset.
  • Experience working in a non-profit, post-secondary, or advancement setting is an asset.
Salary: $65,500.00 - $82,916.00 per annum
