As part of the Psychiatry and Medical Clinics department you will have the opportunity to work with children and families with complex psychiatric needs and chronic mental health disorders. This program allows for a high degree of collaboration with an interdisciplinary team that includes nurses, psychiatrists and administrative staff.Job DetailsSalary/Wage range: $51.50 to $68.23
Vacation: Nine days, accrued annually
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day

Status: Term until June 2027About the Role
Reporting to the designated program manager/director, the Pharmacist is primarily embedded within Psychiatry and Medical Clinics Outpatient Program to optimize psychotropic medication therapy for children and adolescents receiving mental health services. The Pharmacist collaborates closely with CASA psychiatrists, nurses and mental health therapists to support assessment, treatment planning and medication monitoring. The Pharmacist also liaises with external physicians, acute and community pharmacists/pharmacies and other partners.The Pharmacist will:
  • Conduct medication reconciliation at key transition points in care.
  • Prescribe psychotropic and related medications within regulated scope and applicable to the population served.
  • Perform complex medication reviews, evaluating effectiveness, safety, interactions and adherence.
  • Provide patient, family and staff education on medication therapy, risks, benefits, dosing and monitoring plans.
  • Consult on complex medication cases for psychiatrists and prescribers across all programs when requested.
  • Support safe medication transitions back to community providers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated skills in pediatric psychopharmacology and medication safety.
  • Strong assessment, clinical judgment and case management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build consensus across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills and experience in patient/caregiver education.
  • Ability to adapt to dynamic outpatient service demands and changing clinical information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong grasp of the principles of evidence-based practice.
  • Possesses the ability to foster teamwork by trusting and supporting staff while encouraging collaboration with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of the Health Information and Protection of Privacy Information Acts in addition to professional organization’s ethics and standards of practice.
  • Respect and understanding of confidentiality/ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal and sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records or similar information systems.
  • Advanced skills with MS Office products including application to formal writing.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
  • Minimum two-to-three years clinical pharmacy experience, preferably in mental health or pediatrics.
  • Active licensure with the Alberta College of Pharmacy.
  • Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) required or commitment to obtain within agreed timeframe.
  • Authorization to order laboratory tests as per ACP regulations.
  • Certification in injection administration.
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
