Vertex Professional Services Ltd. (Vertex) is seeking an Environmental Land Use Professional with strong expertise in Alberta’s public lands and regulatory systems to support client projects across the province.This role will focus on progressing AER OneStop Public Lands applications, coordinating environmental and land use requirements, and supporting regulatory approvals, including Water Act applications.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare, submit, and manage Public Lands Act applications through AER OneStop
- Interpret and apply Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) / Forestry and Parks (F&P) / AER MSSC and PLAR requirements
- Coordinate, manage and provide strategic advice regarding Water Act applications, including:
- Water Act Code of Practice Notifications (COPs)
- Water Act Approval applications (WAIF / WAIR)
- Engage and consult with subject matter experts to satisfy project needs
- Support environmental planning requirements, including:
- Pre-construction wildlife sweeps
- Pre-disturbance site assessments
- Desktop environmental constraints mapping
- Watercourse crossing assessments
- Liaise with regulatory bodies including:
- Alberta Energy Regulator (AER)
- Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA)
- Forestry and Parks (F&P)
- Track application status, approvals, and conditions
- Maintain accurate project records and regulatory documentation
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff as required
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in environmental land use, regulatory, or public lands roles
- Strong working knowledge of:
- AER OneStop system
- Public Lands Act (PLA)
- Water Act and associated regulations
- MSSC and PLAR tables
- Direct experience with:
- Crown land dispositions
- Water Act applications (WAIF, WAIR, COP)
- Environmental and regulatory coordination
- Experience working on oil & gas, pipeline, or infrastructure project applications in Onestop or Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS)
- Professional designation or eligibility:
- RPFT, RPF, P.Ag., P.Biol., or equivalent
- Strong understanding of Alberta regulatory processes
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Diploma/Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Geography, Planning, or related discipline
- 5 - 10+ years (Senior) in Alberta Crown land workflows.
- This position will be based out of our Sherwood Park or Calgary, AB offices.
