- Leads and develops staff - including responsibility for recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance & expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided.
- Maximizes the effectiveness of human, equipment and financial resources on a daily basis and ensure that they are used appropriately.
- Supports and complies with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System, SOP's, Health & Safety program, and external accreditation requirements.
- Develop and maintain a positive work environment for employees.
- Develop and nurture ongoing relationship with peers in other internal departments and its customers.
- Suggests, develops, and implements new processes and procedures.
- Develops, modifies, and updates Standard Operating Procedures and job profiles.
- Ensure methods in use meet current and proposed regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure that employees are following the SOPs and work to reduce non-conformances.
- Review of laboratory documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Be audit compliant at all times. Ensure adherence to any regulatory conditions required by external or internal clients.
- Provides feedback during budgeting process as required.
- Coordinate requests or recommend resource planning, e.g. need for additional staff or equipment.
- Develop strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth.
- With the Manager, assist in developing business plans that increase Bureau Veritas' profile in the region.
- Act as technical resource for Manager, Customer Service and staff.
- Elevates significant & complex resource issues to Manager.
- Provides technical expertise to staff with respect to day-to-day operations.
- Organizes and directs staff, maintains a good safe working environment, and ensure continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency.
- Understand and enforce our EHS Policy as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Provide information, instructions, and assistance to all staff in order to protect the health and safety of our employees.
- Provide all staff with proper, well-maintained equipment, plus any other special personal protective devices that may be required.
- Conduct safety tailgate meetings with staff regularly and conduct weekly PPE audits.
- Participate in monthly worksite inspections of their area.
- Ensure hazard assessments and critical task analysis are done within their area of responsibility.
- Monitor staff and hold them accountable for their individual safety performance.
- Participate, when requested in internal and external audits.
- Maintain training records and relevant qualifications.
- Monitor lab supplies and equipment.
- All other responsibilities as assigned.
- B.Sc., technical diploma, or equivalent experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience in specific environment of which two (2) years are at a leadership level.
- Good communication skills - both written and verbal.
- Dynamic, energetic, motivated professional with a business outlook and "can-do" attitude.
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment with pressing deadlines.
- Excellent time-management, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
- Able to assess problems, troubleshoot, recommend, and implement solutions.

- Excellent team-building skills, train staff and apply processes knowledge.
- Uses good judgement and assists in resolution of employee relations issue.

- Able to balance the workload to meet new constrains.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and record keeping skills.
- Proficient with MS Office, LIMS experience is an asset.
- Learns quickly and works both independently and as part of a team.
- Handle Hazardous materials following established safety procedures, using appropriate equipment.
- Previous experience with a Warehouse Management System is an asset.
- Reach Truck, Counterbalance Forklift certification is preferred; certification training will be provided for the successful candidate.
- Ability to lift upto 40lbs.
