Location: This position is located in Toronto. Full time attendance is required in the office for the first month to optimize training. After that, per the current *** policy, the consultant is required to attend office 3x per week.
Position Description:
The Canada Controllers team is responsible for overseeing the accounting, financial and regulatory reporting for the Canadian registered brokers/dealers. The team prepares external financial reports for public filings and regulators.Responsibilities:
  • Preparing and analyzing risk adjusted capital, including margin and other regulatory capital deduction schedules in accordance with local regulatory rules on a weekly and monthly basis;
  • Supporting month end close processes involving journal entries booking, reconciliations and variance analysis;
  • Addressing ad hoc requests from other functional areas (legal, compliance, tax, operations, etc);
  • Assisting with local regulatory, statutory and tax audits; and
  • Maintaining appropriate procedures and documentation.
Required skills:
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in public accountings and/or broker dealer firms;
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting and/or finance;
  • Strong data-oriented, problem-solving skills;
  • Self-motivated personality with high standards for quality of work and accuracy;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt, and work well under pressure in a team environment
  • Ability and willingness to work with virtual teams across varying regions towards the achievement of common goals;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal;
  • Ability to learn and understand new processes quickly with minimum supervision;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word);
  • Knowledge of IFRS accounting rules;
Advantage to have:
  • Canadian CPA designation or its equivalents from other countries is preferred;
  • Experience with broker/dealer reporting to Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) and/or recognized national exchanges and associations is an asset.
