- Managing or leading capital and expense projects from concept through implementation, ensuring effective coordination and results.
- Performing engineering design, along with document and data gathering, analysis, and processing.
- Supporting the maintenance and services of electrical and control systems across the mill.
- Delivering engineering services for energy-related projects, including power generation and distribution.
- Driving continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives through innovation and system optimization.
- Actively participate in setting and achieving departmental safety goals, supporting the mill's zero-incident safetyculture.
- Comply with all applicable safety regulations, instructions, procedures, and policies.
- Communicate with and audit field service crews and contractors to ensure compliance with the mill's safety requirements.
- Identify and correct unsafe acts or conditions immediately to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain full awareness of and adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation and all organizational safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure all assigned electrical equipment/system installations and repair work comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Remain informed of and committed to environmental responsibilities, ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and best practices.
- Lead or support capital and reliability improvement projects, including scope development, budgeting, procurement, scheduling, and execution.
- Develop cost estimates and prepare Appropriation for Funding Requests (AFRs) for instrumentation and electrical project scopes.
- Prepare detailed Scopes of Work (SOWs) for Requests for Proposals (RFPs), specify equipment or services for procurement, and prepare bid evaluations and contractor/vendor justifications.
- Manage contracts with engineering consultants, vendors, and contractors; review and approve deliverables; and Qualifications
- Support the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and adjustment of pulp mill electrical systems and control/instrumentation systems.
- Ensure parts, materials, and equipment inventories are in place ahead of project execution or field service mobilization.
- Assist in developing and implementing engineering standards, policies, and procedures within the department and across the mill.
- Provide engineering design drawings and accurate as-built documentation as required.
- Liaise with Operations, Maintenance, and other departments to ensure optimal electrical system performance, coordinating outages, power distribution, and service reliability.
- Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records in accordance with mill procedures and compliance standards.
- Conduct electrical fault analysis, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive measures.
- Support the operation and maintenance of steam turbine generators and mill-wide power systems.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
- 6+ years of experience in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment (pulp and paper, power generation, mining, etc.).
- Holds a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, preferably registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or able to transfer to EGBC
- Strong understanding of high- and low-voltage electrical systems, power generation equipment, and industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with steam turbine generators and plant-wide power distribution networks including protective relays.
- Experience with DCS and power generation platforms, including integration with PLC systems. Experience with ABB 800XA and Emmerson RX3i is an asset.
- Experience with low and medium voltage motor starters, and low voltage variable frequency drives (Mitsubishi A800)
- Solid knowledge of electrical codes and industrial safety regulations (e.g., CSA, NEC, NFPA).
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated project management and leadership capabilities in engineering and maintenance environments.
- Familiar with SAP or equivalent enterprise asset management systems for work orders, materials, and reporting.
- Skilled in AutoCAD for designing and producing electrical schematics and layout drawings.
- Familiar with ION software and energy monitoring/reporting programs.
- Familiar with a power system analysis software such as SKMExperienced with production data acquisition/historian software similar to ParcView, used for monitoring and data acquisition in industrial
- operations.
