Key Responsibilities
- Processes biological specimens for Transmission and Scanning Electron Microscopy (TEM/SEM), including fixation, embedding, sectioning, staining, immunogold labelling, and SEM preparation techniques.
- Prepares and maintains microscopy reagents and materials, including fixatives, buffers, embedding media, and stains.
- Provides instruction, supervision, and technical assistance to users of TEM and SEM equipment, including microscope operation, image acquisition, sample handling, and troubleshooting.
- Participates in the operation and maintenance of the Electron Microscopy Facility, including equipment monitoring, coordination of service and repairs, and attendance at operational meetings.
- With guidance form the Facilities Manager and the Senior Technologist performs administrative and safety-related duties, including chemical inventory control (WHMIS), laboratory safety training, audits, permit updates, and assistance with outreach and educational activities
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in science plus approximately three years' of experience in life science or a related area (or an equivalent combination training and education).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to organize workload.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task in a deadline driven, team environment.
- Expertise in cell biology/cytology and microscopy
