- Set daily priorities and implement work plans to ensure grass mowing and trimming meet service levels and high-quality standards
- Assign tasks to team members and provide hands-on leadership to ensure work is completed safely and on schedule
- Monitor staff performance and attendance, providing coaching and mentoring to help your team grow
- Oversee the safe operation and maintenance of mowing equipment including 72” John Deere mowers, 5910 Toro units, Tractor mounted mowers, and trimmers
- Manage administrative tasks, including data entry for work accomplishments and monitoring budget expenditures
- Act as a primary point of contact for community partners and collaborators regarding on-site maintenance needs
- Perform complex manual duties and operate specialized snow-clearing equipment such as brooms, plows, sanders, and snow blowers
- Adhere strictly to standard operating procedures and safety measures to maintain safe public pathways
- Conduct on-site hazard assessments and participate in daily safety meetings to ensure a secure work environment
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of ice surfaces as required by seasonal demands
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with people with lived experience in our parks and trail systems
- Completion of a two (2) year diploma program in a related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in parks maintenance, construction, landscaping, or heavy equipment operation
- Knowledge of Mowing, Trimming, and Snow and Ice service levels and policies
- Ability to lead, develop, and motivate effective work crews within a fast-paced environment
- Leadership in the safe handling of equipment, ranging from toolcats and mowers to snow blowers and sweepers
- Ability to resolve equipment breakdowns and ensure tools are site-ready
- Ensure all staff training and certifications are maintained and up-to-date
- Exercise cost control measures to keep expenses in line with approved budgets
- Monitor and assess staff attendance and performance, identifying issues for supervisory attention
- Communicate effectively with community partners to provide excellent customer service
- Experience using Google Suite (Docs, Sheets), SAP, LMS, and SDMS
- Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is required
- Successful candidates must be fit for a respirator; compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment is required
- Compliance with safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, gloves, and coveralls
- Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR-C, and AED certifications
- Applicants may be tested
- Role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, terrains, and extreme temperatures
- Exposure to dust, poor air quality, noise, vibrations, chemicals, and mechanical/electrical hazards
- Public-facing role requiring interaction with diverse people with different needs and expectations
- Completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks, including lifting items up to 50 pounds
- Availability to work day, night, and weekend shifts up to 10 hours per shift
