Schedule: Full‑timeAs our next Automation Designer – Mechanical, you will support the design and development of custom automation and special‑purpose equipment used in manufacturing environments. This role is an individual contributor position focused on mechanical design, detailing, and cross‑functional collaboration. You will work alongside project teams to develop practical, manufacturable automation solutions ranging from material‑handling equipment to automated cells and assembly systems.This role is well‑suited for a hands‑on mechanical designer with automation exposure who is looking to deepen their technical experience without people‑management responsibilities.Opportunity to work on practical, real‑world automation projectsCollaborative engineering environment with experienced technical peersFocused individual contributor role with room to grow technicallySupportive leadership and well‑defined project structuresStable workload aligned with professional work‑life balanceWhat You’ll Be Doing:Design mechanical components and assemblies for automation systems, including tooling, fixtures, gauges, robot cells, and assembly equipmentInterpret engineering drawings and specifications to determine dimensions, materials, tolerances, and process requirementsPerform basic engineering calculations related to strength, force, speed, and motionDevelop 3D models, detailed drawings, and bills of material using SolidWorksSelect standard mechanical components and work with engineering teams to ensure design compatibilityCoordinate mechanical designs with electrical and controls teams to support system integrationParticipate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of design practicesSupport manufacturing during equipment build, debug, and integration phasesCommunicate technical information with internal teams, vendors, and suppliersEnsure designs comply with applicable safety requirements, internal standards, and customer specificationsMaintain organized design documentation throughout the project lifecycleWhat We’re Looking ForDegree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field3–6 years of experience in automation, special‑purpose equipment, or industrial machinery designProficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical design and detailingWorking knowledge of automation equipment such as robotic cells, assembly systems, or material‑handling equipmentUnderstanding of pneumatic systems and common industrial components (sensors, switches, basic electrical interfaces)Familiarity with manufacturing and machining processesAbility to work effectively as an individual contributor within a project‑based team environmentHow to Apply:Apply online at www.johnsonelectric.com — we can’t wait to meet you!What We Offer:Johnson Electric offers a dynamic engineering environment where innovation and creativity thrive.
