- Prepare design concepts and production drawings with supporting calculations and material data ensuring that designs meet specification requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
- Design, formulate and produce complete product related changes for current products in a continuous improvement environment. Improve warranty, ease of assembly, and expand product options for production.
- Contact and interact with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to investigate technologies and their applications.
- Design and test prototypes. Employ data collection, analysis techniques, and optimization to achieve target performance.
- Communicates with other Engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design(s) to ensure alignment for completion.
- Maintain thorough documentation for all aspects of assigned projects.
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendations for improvement.
- Provide support in checking details, assemblies and BOMs for assigned projects.
- Mentor other Engineering Designers and Design Engineers.
- Perform Simulation for hydraulic systems and components using Automation Studio and/or Simscape Fluids
- Apply a wide variety of established or modified engineering methods or techniques with considerable independence of action.
- Other duties as assigned.
- University or college degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or any other relevant engineering-based programs.
- Preference will be given to candidates registered or working towards their P.Eng designation.
- Experience as a Hydraulic Designer or Hydraulics Design Engineer in a heavy equipment (or related) manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of hydraulic controls and general electrical skills, Mechanical design, GD&T, DFMEA, welding/fabrication processes.
- Design experience with SolidWorks (with formal training preferred); experience with Automation Studio and/or Simscape Fluids is a bonus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with a cross functional technical team as well as with manufacturing personnel.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to create, read, and interpret Electrical and Hydraulic Schematics.
- In depth understanding of PC and LS hydraulic systems.
- Experience in designing various control circuits including open and closed center hydraulics.
- Experience in designing hydrostatic closed loop drive systems.
- Experience in designing with fixed and variable displacement piston pumps and gear pumps
- Experience in designing with cartridge valves and electro-proportional controls
- Hydraulic hose sizing and routing experience
- Hydraulic filtration design experience
- Troubleshooting of various control circuits experience
- Familiarity of Automation Studio and/ or Simscape Fluids would be beneficial
- Hydraulic testing and development of hydraulic test plans would be beneficial
