The City of Prince Albert is looking to fill a permanent full time position of GIS Technician in the Community Development department. The GIS Technician is responsible to support GIS initiatives for all City departments. The GIS Technician will contribute to the development and implementation of data standards, assessing and managing a multitude of data sets and provide technical GIS support to internal and external partners.Required Qualifications:
  • Certificate or diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Up to 1 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Class 5 driver's license.
Key Knowledge, Technical Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of GIS and related software applications.
  • Knowledge of GIS data analysis methods, understanding of GIS tool sets, file formats and digital compilation techniques.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to work efficiently with current operating systems, spreadsheet, word processing and database applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time and tasks effectively.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:1. Key Duties:
  • Create, develop and maintain spatial and attribute databases.
  • Operate GIS related software and applications used to manipulate spatial and attribute data to produce spatial data products.
  • Maintain, update, and analyze both spatial and non-spatial data
  • Assist with research of models, methodologies, data sources, business and analytical tools to assist departments in meeting their operational and strategic goals.
  • Develop scripts, models or other methods to automate repetitive geoprocessing tasks used in data maintenance and the production of maps.
  • Develop and document procedures for data integrity, editing, import, conversion and management of spatial and attribute data.
  • Develop and/or deliver training to staff on geo-technical, GIS and web mapping products.
  • Plan map content, format and design and compile data based on departmental requirements.
  • Prepare digital, online and hard copy maps for distribution to internal staff, outside organizations and the general public.
  • Provide technical assistance to GIS-based application users.
  • Perform quality control reviews.
  • Liaise with other departments regarding special projects.

  • Attend to all inquiries through personal, telephone, and written communication.
