- Define EPS architecture (generation, storage, distribution) that satisfies mission power budget, mass, volume and reliability constraints.
- Perform trade-studies (e.g., solar cell type, battery chemistry, regulator topology).
- Generate system requirements, functional flow block diagrams.
- Develop the Interface Control Documents (ICD) and Design Description.
- Perform requirement management and maintain bidirectional traceability throughout the program life cycle.
- Size solar arrays, power-conditioning units, battery packs, and power distribution units.
- Build and validate high-fidelity electrical models for satellite modes, FMECA, Fault detection…
- Conduct & maintain power budget models, load-flow, thermal-power coupling, and survivability analyses (e.g., eclipse, safe-mode, fault-tolerant).
- Present technical status, risk analyses, and trade-study results to senior management.
- Interface with spacecraft bus teams (power, thermal, structure, avionics).
- Develop/maintain high-fidelity power models for mission analysis (e.g., orbit raising, station-keeping, de-orbit).
- Develop tools for power efficiency & optimisation for the satellite.
- Support B&P (Phase 0 & pre-phase A).
- Author verification plans, test matrices, and validation procedures for unit & EPS subsystem tests.
- Support ground-test & integration campaigns, fueling, thermal vacuum, EMI/EMC, and spacecraft-level integration.
- Analyse test data, close out anomalies, and update design baselines.
- Support FSW integration
- Mentor, guide, lead a multidisciplinary team of junior or intermediate system engineers & interns
- Act as technical liaison with customers, partners and external vendors
- Act as Continuous Improvement stakeholder
- Contribute to MDA’s knowledge-base, process enhancements, and standards development.
- Maintain design and safety standards.
- Ensure all artefacts, analysis, software, documentations and deliverables are version controlled in PLM environment.
- Support design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR/TRR…etc.).
- Support Technology Road-Mapping & Innovation
- Support launch-site interface checklists with LVI responsible engineer, pre-launch checkout procedures, and early-orbit checkout scripts.
- Provide real-time engineering support during launch, on-orbit commissioning, anomaly investigations and contingency operations.
- Support SOOH development and associated operator trainings.
- Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace or Physics with 5 + years of EPS system design experience on LEO/MEO platforms.
- Deep knowledge of spacecraft bus subsystems and their interactions.
- Experience with power-electronics design and power management hardware.
- Strong understanding of aerospace system engineering fundamentals
- Hands-on individual who can support systems integration processes and capability to test systems and resolve problems.
- Experience with Confluence and JIRA
- Demonstrated capability to efficiently work with little supervision
- Ability to distill complex problems to fundamentals to solve with analysis, similarity, or creativity.
- Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of French will be considered an asset (Contact with clients outside Quebec and work on deliverables in English).
