Description;Actalent's client in Vancouver is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join their team. The Senior Designer Independently manages design, construction and materials quality control functions. Supervises the activities of a team or production unit in the execution of projects. Assists in recruitment and management of personnel. May assume the role of Project Manager and assists with marketing and client services on a regular basis. Registered Professional Technologists (R.P.T.) may take technical responsibility for projects within the limits of their approved scope of practice.- Establish and maintain drafting standards within mining industry (KEY)- Draft/design process standards- Create flow sheets, layouts, P&IDs using AutoCAD3D/Microstation3D- Participate in design activities for items including but not limited to, pumps, conveyor belts, pipe layouts/racks, grinders, crushers, flotation devices- Review and modifies drafts as needed- Developing 3D models in support of drafting team as needed- Supporting junior designers with coaching/development as neededPurpose of Position: (scope summary)Independently manages design, construction and materials quality control functions. Supervises the activities of a team or production unit in the execution of projects. Assists in recruitment and management of personnel. May assume the role of Project Manager and assists with marketing and client services on a regular basis. Registered Professional Technologists (R.P.T.) may take technical responsibility for projects within the limits of their approved scope of practice. Typical background: minimum 10 years of progressively more responsible experience.Primary Responsibility;
  • Assist Engineers and other Designers to deliver design drawings and final construction/detail drawings, for engineering projects;
  • Prepares supporting information by developing bills of materials for equipment and piping;
  • Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data;
  • Responsible for drawing presentation, accuracy and determining sufficient level of detail required to facilitate fabrication;
  • Check and verify design drawings conform to specifications and design data;
  • Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets and deliver drawing packages within the project schedule;
  • Prepare contracts, tender documents, construction specifications, costs and material estimates;
  • Direct the work of junior personnel;
  • Maintain drawing consistency with others in the department;
  • Understand drawing configuration and revisions, including proper file administration during drawing development;
  • Modifies drawings by analyzing, resolving and incorporating changes;
  • Deliver drawing packages within the project schedule;
  • Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets.
