- Provide day-to-day interpretation, administration, and application of multiple collective agreements (e.g., seniority, job postings, layoff/recall, overtime, premiums).
- Manage grievance processes end-to-end: intake, investigation, response drafting, settlement discussions, and progression through arbitration as required.
- Lead arbitration case preparation, including file development, evidence gathering and review, document production, and witness identification and preparation; liaise with external counsel; represent the company at hearings and mediations.
- Support collective bargaining preparation and execution: analyze data, develop proposals/counter-proposals, participate in negotiations, and maintain rigorous records and costing models.
- Build constructive relationships with union representatives and steward networks; participate in Joint Labour Management meetings and committees.
- Track case law, arbitral trends, and legislative changes to inform risk mitigation and LR strategy; conduct comparative analyses of collective agreements and market data.
- Administer compensation cycles within the framework of multiple collective agreements (e.g., wage adjustments, progression grids, premiums).
- Advise leaders on complex employee relations matters, progressive discipline, performance improvement plans, accommodations/return to work, and workplace investigations; ensure fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes.
- Coach leaders on people-management practices, including feedback, recognition, performance calibration, and change leadership to enable a high performance culture.
- Support workforce planning, organizational design, and headcount/position management; ensure job evaluations and organizational structures align with business needs and collective agreements.
- Partner on talent processes: onboarding and offboarding, career pathways, succession inputs, and internal mobility within bargaining and non-bargaining groups.
- Lead or support policy development, program rollout, and employee engagement initiatives; embed inclusion, psychological safety, and continuous improvement principles.
- Track and analyze grievances, arbitrations, and dispute resolution outcomes; translate insights into proactive strategies and leader education.
- Produce regular HR/LR dashboards and reporting (e.g., headcount, vacancies, overtime, attendance, case cycle times, costing of proposals); provide briefings that inform decision-making.
- Use advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, modeling) and HRIS tools to ensure data integrity and generate actionable insights for leadership.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources or related discipline; degree/diploma an asset.
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including demonstrated experience in Labour Relations within a unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian employment and labour legislation (federal and applicable provincial) and collective agreement frameworks.
- Proven experience managing grievances to resolution
- Experience supporting collective bargaining (preparation, costing, drafting proposals, participating in negotiations).
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority, build trust with leaders and union partners, and navigate sensitive situations with sound judgment and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); strong coaching, facilitation, and relationship-building capabilities.
- Advanced analytical and problem solving skills with high attention to detail; comfort with data storytelling and executive-ready summaries.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities; effective at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and advanced Excel (pivot tables, data manipulation); experience with HRIS/reporting tools.
