The Backcountry Supervisor oversees the daily operations of Snow School backcountry programs and products, ensuring smooth, efficient, and guest-focused service delivery. This role is responsible for staff scheduling, payroll coordination, and the ongoing development and refinement of administrative processes. As a key frontline presence, the Backcountry Supervisor builds strong connections with both guests and staff, supports team performance, and resolves operational challenges in real time. Through proactive leadership and attention to detail, the supervisor ensures a seamless, high-quality experience for all guests while maintaining a positive, well-coordinated work environment.Job Specifications:

- Oversee and support daily operations of Extremely Canadian backcountry products, including tours, clinics, and AST courses.
- Schedule instructors/guides, manage bookings, and prepare client groupings and communications.
- Coordinate morning client meet-and-greets; ensure waivers, rental gear, and lunch orders are processed.
- Supervise curriculum updates and ensure delivery meets the standards of Avalanche Canada, Extremely Canadian and Vail Resorts
- Manage virtual and classroom and field logistics including zoom, room bookings, gear inventory, radios, uniforms, and course materials.
- Provide on-the-ground leadership.
- Conduct administrative tasks such as payroll tracking, performance management, invoicing for operating expenses and season-end reporting (AST numbers, BC Parks summaries, etc.).
- Monitor and document staff performance; provide mentorship, coaching, feedback, or discipline as necessary.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Represent Extremely Canadian in cross-departmental meetings and resort-wide leadership forums
- Work with WB Sales, Marketing, Media Relations, and Tourism Whistler to drive product visibility and sales.
- Facilitate hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing staff development in collaboration with lead guide and WB leadership
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required; post-secondary education in a relevant field preferred.
- Current ACMG, CAA Level 1 or 2, or PSIA/AASI or equivalent certification Preferred, not a requirement.
- Minimum 1-3 years of backcountry guiding or ski instruction experience; at least 1 year of team leadership or supervisory experience required.
- Proven ability to manage logistics and resolve operational issues under pressure.
- Knowledge of Whistler Blackcomb terrain and experience working in the ski or adventure tourism industry strongly preferred.
- Must be proficient with scheduling tools, Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; professional and service-oriented.
- Physically capable of participating in backcountry fieldwork and on-snow duties.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Fluent in English (verbal and written); additional languages an asset.
