This is a rare opportunity to be part of a fast-growing company in the burgeoning home care sector. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President of Finance is responsible for directing and managing the company’s corporate accounting functions and financial systems, and for supporting the Chief Financial Officer in managing all business administration functions including banking, tax, legal, contracts, pricing, facilities, and M&A activities. Supported by a seasoned Toronto-based team and provincial finance leads, the VP, Finance will be instrumental in establishing and maintaining accounting principles, controls, and procedures across all businesses, including the preparation of financial statements and reports for the overall business. As the primary finance lead, the VP Finance will work collaboratively with the broader corporate leadership team on strategic project implementation, including upgrading financial systems and processes.The successful candidate will have strong communication and leadership skills and in-depth knowledge and expertise in accounting (ASPE) and ERP financial systems (inclusive of payroll processes). This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned finance leader to take their career to the next level, working closely with a dynamic executive management team and participating in key industry and key stakeholder initiatives while augmenting expertise in corporate development and mergers and acquisitions.Job Description
  • Oversee the preparation of consolidated monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and preparing notes and MD&A for senior management and board of directors
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial information for the Spectrum group of companies by reviewing/approving journal entries and related backup schedules prepared by the accounting manager and controller and their teams
  • Coordinate and oversee year-end audit, schedules and financial statements
  • Primary lead working with the company’s tax advisors, CFO, and finance leads in day-to-day and annual tax activities, elections, and filings for all legal entities
  • Ensure compliance with all government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis as required for financial reporting or acquisition activities
  • Take a leadership role in improving general accounting workflow efficiency, implementing best practices in the use of financial, payroll, and reporting systems and other technologies. Play a critical role in supporting the assessment, recommendation, and implementation of new financial, reporting and payroll systems across all entities.
  • Support business administration functions including:
  • Managing, negotiating, and tracking all business contracts and legal agreements
  • Annual renewal and claims of corporate insurance and group benefits programs
  • Facilities management leasehold improvements and lease agreements
  • Liaison with corporate counsel supporting contracts, claims, board, and legal entity matters.
  • Procurement oversight and stakeholder relations with primary vendors
Qualifications
  • CPA designation with extensive applicable business and operational leadership experience
  • Demonstrated track record of success in a finance leadership role in a high growth environment - acquisitions, integrations, and rapid organic growth
  • Experience in the health care sector an asset
  • Deep understanding of Canada tax, Ministry of Labour, legal environments
  • Prior experience as a Director of Finance or VP Finance
  • Experience with private equity owned companies or equivalent is preferred
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with all levels of management, the Board of Directors, investors and key external stakeholders
  • A high energy team player with an entrepreneurial mindset and the passion and initiative to drive results
  • Proficiency in French is considered a strong asset
