The candidate is responsible for providing basic assistance to the operations of the laboratory, and for maintaining a sterile and safe work environment.Main activities:Prepare, homogenize, and weigh sample for analysis.Quality control monitoring to include but not be limited to recording of daily temperatures, daily weight checks, monthly pipette and syringe calibrations. etc.Collect, wash and dry glassware and other containers used throughout the laboratory and return to the designated locations in the laboratory.Ensure the department is stocked with necessary supplies.Maintain the cleanliness of the laboratory and surrounding areas.Assist the maintenance and janitorial personnel with other cleaning requirements as requested. Update logbooks and maintenance records as required.Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process. Perform necessary tasks related to quality control parameters for the function being performed.This position has the responsibilities and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed non-conforming system and notify the supervisor.Adhere to all safety policies.May be asked to assist other department in the capacity of lab assistant.Perform other related duties as needed.YOUR PROFILEProfile: Highschool diploma or GED. Entry-level position. This position requires the ability to follow specific instructions. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to enter client data. The incumbent may be required to operate company vehicle that would require the skill to operate a motor vehicle and exhibit safe driving skills.Required skills: Analytical skills are essential to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to process client data. Physical dexterity is required for manipulating samples. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and practices is required to ensure a safe working environment. Interpersonal skills are required to effectively work within teams.Work Environment: The incumbent works in a laboratory with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. The incumbent works in a laboratory with increased temperatures near the autoclave and washer. The incumbent is required to wear masks, laboratory coat and insulated gloves when working with media. Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds is necessary when loading and preparing samples. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position. The incumbent may spend infrequent time in a motor vehicle for sample pick up and delivery purposes.The pay range for this role is $19.29 - $20.30/hourly CAD.#LI-DNPWHY JOIN US?
