- Coordinate with the ETS Supervisor on fee-for-service research activities, working on assigned projects, generally with a well-defined scope
- Machining parts using a variety of machines, tools, methods, and equipment, including but not limited to: CNC milling machines and lathes, manual milling machines and lathes, drill presses, grinders, laser and water jet cutters
- Utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software to review part and assembly designs and drawings
- Provide budgetary cost estimates to researchers on the time and materials required for projects
- Consult with faculty, researchers, students and other technicians to discuss projects, including designs, concepts and procedures
- Demonstrate basic shop practices, current manufacturing processes, shop safety and use of specialized equipment and instrumentation to students and researchers
- Actively engage in the Faculty of Engineering's Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Plan, including consultation on the development of policies and procedures
- Repair, maintain, upgrade and make custom modifications to machines and equipment as required
- High School Diploma
- Journeyperson Machinist Certificate or equivalent
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- 2+ years of CNC experience with working knowledge of CAM/CAD
- WHMIS & safety training
- Diploma in mechanical or electrical technologies
- MIG/TIG welding proficiency
- Experience with laboratory process piping and equipment
- Experience with Electrical Discharge Machining (Wire EDM)
- Experience with assemblies and part tolerances
- Experience working in research and development environments
- Coaching, mentoring, or instructional experience as it relates to shop equipment
