I feel welcome and at home.” .We are currently seeking a:Disability and Absence Management Advisor - Human ResourcesPermanent Full-timeWhat will be your role?As an integral member of the Human Resources department, the Disability and Absence Management Advisor employs the principles of disability management to all current cases of non-occupational illnesses /injuries, including administrative and professional level functions of all other leave claims related to the Employment Standards Act, OHRC and other absences covered under workplace collective agreements and/or company policies. The position will work closely with the staff, their Leaders and other HR Business partners to ensure a progressive and comprehensive return to work program which results in effective early intervention and timely management of absence cases and safe prompt and effective return-to-work strategies.What makes VHA’s compensation unique?

Key functions of this role include but not limited to;
  • Proactively manage and administer disability/leave of absence claims. Monitor length of sick leaves, leave of absence entitlements, gap periods, and eligibility dates. Draft return to work letters
  • Review job demands/accommodation requests and identify suitable work while adhering to the essential duties
  • Provide accurate and timely information regarding claims/leaves extensions to supervision/managers, insurers, and other internal stakeholders as appropriate
  • Submit third party referrals including case synopsis, referral questions and follow-ups
  • In collaboration with members of HR Team develop, communicate and reinforce effective attendance management and disability management strategies
  • Maintain confidentiality, accuracy and integrity in the collection, processing, and maintenance of claims information in accordance with legislation and company policies
  • Provide consultancy, advice and support to all stakeholders pertaining to all employee leaves
Key Skills, Experience and Behaviors required for this position:
  • A college or University degree in a health- related field e.g., Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) would be considered an asset
  • 3-5 years prior experience with disability management principles such as workplace accommodation, return to work plans and documentation
  • Proven ability to exercise judgement, tact, and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature
  • Superior mediation and conflict management skills to resolve complex employee health and behavioral issues
  • Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel),and Workday would be an asset
  • Strong relationship building skills to partner effectively with all stakeholders
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g. Human Rights Code (HRC), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA), Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Employee Standards Act (ESA)
  • Prior experience working in unionized environment would be considered an asset
