Leadership:
- Communicate with the Service Writer and Branch/Service Manager to review job schedules, progress updates, assign work, and update customer status in accordance with internal protocols to ensure internal and external customer expectations are met
- Lead and mentor a team of technicians and apprentices, ensuring they are completing jobs on schedule, are working safely in alignment with company work procedures and are meeting quality and efficiency targets
- Collaborate with Branch/Service Manager on apprenticeship and employee skills progress, shift goals and review of efficiency reports
- Conduct toolbox safety talks with team daily
- Communicate and collaborate with training and development team on areas of opportunity with team members individually
- Oversee all repairs, troubleshooting and diagnostics performed in the shop and sign off on repairs as required
- Assess the quality of all work to ensure optimal output
- Communicate effectively with customers on “in progress work” for updates or costing
- Perform final run test of new/used equipment as required and sign off in the work order to mark the job as complete
- Ensure all required paperwork is completed for each job and submitted to the Service Writer in alignment with our processes
- Provide input regarding each technician’s performance to the Branch/Service Manager during performance review process
- Maintain employer/employee confidentiality
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to Technicians
- Conduct and complete vehicle safety inspections
- Perform mechanical repairs and PDIs (pre-delivery inspections) on a variety of heavy equipment
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues
- Conduct repairs in a timely and effective manner, communicating with the Service Writer and Parts team to ensure optimal efficiency
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance tasks and inspections
- Work in collaboration with other departments and branches as required to ensure efficiency and customer service expectations are met
- Provide training and equipment overview to customers as required on JJE or customer premises
- Maintain organized and safe work area and shop tools
- Model safe work practices and ensure team adherence to health and safety policies.
- Identify and report workplace hazards promptly to prevent incidents.
- Support safety training efforts and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist in documenting and responding to workplace incidents and near misses.
- Act as a point of contact for escalating safety concerns and sharing updates with the team.
- Review and make recommendations related to shop equipment and ensure all equipment is in good safe working order
- Complete additional tasks as assigned
- Positive attitude with the ability to motivate, coach and train technicians
- Team oriented and willing to assist others when required
- Safety oriented and strong understanding of provincial safety regulations
- Strong mechanical abilities, including hydraulic, pneumatics and electrical repair and diagnostics
- Valid 310T Truck & Coach Technician License
- 5+ years of direct industry and equipment experience
- Experience in a leadership capacity is an asset
- Experience setting up and operating complex machinery
- Experience using MS Office Suite, specifically MS Outlook.
