As part of the Substance Use & Concurrent Disorders team, you will provide person‑centred Social Work services for clients with substance use disorders and co‑occurring mental or physical health conditions.Duties:
  • Collaborate with SUCD Program teams and hospital/community partners (acute care, public health, withdrawal management, treatment programs) to coordinate care and follow‑up.
  • Provide evidence‑based assessments, consultations, and psychotherapy (individual, group, couples, family) for clients with complex concurrent substance use, mental health, and physical health concerns.
  • Conduct rapid risk assessments, develop crisis intervention plans, and respond effectively to acute situations (e.g., suicide risk, intoxication).
  • Engage clients, families, and community supports in interventions, harm‑reduction strategies, and continuity‑of‑care planning.
  • Assess social determinants of health and support related needs (housing, transportation, medication coverage).
  • Utilize evidence‑informed therapeutic approaches (MI, CBT, DBT) within a trauma‑informed, harm‑reduction framework; facilitate concurrent disorder group therapy modules.
  • Advocate for clients, families, and caregivers to access appropriate resources, services, and supports.
  • Liaise and consult with community service providers; deliver educational presentations to community groups and conferences.
  • Participate in teaching, mentoring, and supervising Social Work students.
  • Maintain workload measurement, required documentation, and OCSWSSW registration requirements.
  • Attend peer consultation, Social Work meetings, and discipline‑specific activities; remain current on policies, legislation, and best practices.
  • Comply with staff and client safety policies and support an environment aligned with The Royal’s Anti‑Racism, Harassment, and Discrimination‑Free Workplace Policy.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in social work and registration in good standing with the OCSWSSW are required.
  • Clinical social work experience in mental health and substance‑use treatment settings is required.
  • Experience working with severe and complex substance use and concurrent mental health disorders is required.
  • Experience supporting individuals with opioid, alcohol, and other substance use disorders is required.
  • Ability to identify signs and symptoms of alcohol and opioid withdrawal or intoxication is required.
  • Experience providing individual, family, and group interventions is required.
  • Training and/or experience with MI, CBT, and DBT is preferred.
  • Demonstrated group facilitation, presentation, and training skills are required.
  • Knowledge and experience with harm‑reduction interventions including safer injection practices and overdose prevention/response are required.
  • Experience working with individuals at high risk for drug use, blood‑borne infections, and STIs is required.
  • Experience collaborating with public health and community agencies is required.
  • Effective teamwork skills and the ability to work within interdisciplinary hospital and community settings are required. Proficiency using electronic health record systems for documentation and navigation is required.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
