Responsibilities
- Supporting and progressively managing litigated insurance defence files through all stages of litigation, with increasing autonomy under the guidance and mentorship of senior counsel
- Assisting with and, as experience permits, conducting questionings, mediations, and chambers applications
- Contributing to the strategic management of complex and high-profile matters
- Maintaining strong client service standards, including timely reporting and file management
- Meeting billable and non-billable expectations within a busy, team-oriented defence practice
- Participating in professional development and business development activities consistent with practice growth
- 2–4 years of post-call civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defence, either in private practice or in-house. Construction litigation experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with Alberta Rules of Court and litigation procedures
- Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills, combined with sound professional judgment
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and a practical, service-oriented approach
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy practice
