  • Prepare cost effective structural engineering designs from conceptual design to detail design, tender and construction in accordance with Canadian Codes and Standards.
  • Perform analysis and design of steel structures and concrete foundations for industrial and infrastructure projects.
  • Perform site visits and inspect existing structures. Perform evaluation and analysis of existing structures for modifications and additions and propose reinforcement solutions.
  • Prepare material take-offs of steel and concrete.
  • Complete tasks under minimal supervision ensuring that objectives of cost, quality and time are met.
  • Supervise the work of designers on the project team.
  • Be able to work directly with drafting staff to produce detailed drawing packages.
  • Liaise with client representatives and general contractors directly.
  • Manage small projects primarily led by structural scope.
  • Preparation of project specifications and work scopes.
  • Maintain and build upon client relationships.
QualificationsAbout you
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural engineering from a recognized University. (Master’s degree would be considered an asset).
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) within the Province of Ontario.
  • 10 to 15 yrs experience in the design of industrial and/or institutional type buildings.
  • Proven experience and a track record of complete responsibility for the structural design and certification of various building types and heights, including lateral load analysis.
  • Proficiency in understanding of structural systems and design of steel and concrete structures, including heavy concrete foundations for buildings and equipment. (Masonry and wood design experience would be considered an asset).
  • Proficiency in application of Canadian Codes and Standards. (Proficiency US and International Codes and Standards is an asset)
  • Proficiency in structural engineering design software in one or more of STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, MathCAD, RISA, etc.
  • Ability to translate design to drawings through effective communication with designers that include sketches, diagrams, and mark ups.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, NavisWorks and Smart Plant would be considered an asset.
  • Experienced in dealing directly with clients and contractors, including site inspections and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and as part of a multidisciplinary group.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.· Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products to prepare reports, specifications, presentations, and estimates.· Valid driver’s license.
