- Technology Transition: Lead the transition to Unreal Engine by defining workflows, naming conventions, and processes. Maintain alignment with real-time production.
- Pipeline Architecture: Develop, implement, and optimize pre-rendered pipelines in collaboration with Technical Direction (Content TD) for high-resolution and atypical canvas projects. Ensure alignment with interactive and real-time pipeline development.
- Documentation: Document workflows, produce technical reports, and maintain the department's knowledge base.
- R&D & Monitoring: Stay up to date with the latest Unreal Engine versions (UE5+) and emerging technologies (Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Production).
- Tools: Identify and resolve technical bottlenecks. Collaborate with teams to develop custom tools that facilitate data import and asset management.
- Technical Expertise: Provide hands-on expertise across all aspects of production, including scene assembly, lighting, shading, animation, and rendering.
- Optimization: Establish best practices for profiling, debugging, and performance optimization (LODs, textures, Blueprints) to ensure smooth project performance.
- Previsualization: Contribute to the development of VR previsualization workflows for Unreal-based projects.
- Validation: Identify pipeline issues early in production and validate assets before integration.
- Quality Control (QC): Ensure all outputs (final pixels, layers, compositing passes) meet high visual fidelity standards and client requirements.
- Support producers in building project budgets by selecting the appropriate technologies
- Collaborate closely with project managers and creative leads to plan production according to budget constraints
- Define the level of quality in relation to the allocated budget
- Assess technical needs and pipeline requirements, and propose solutions aligned with the project team
- Support: Provide technical guidance to artists and act as a bridge between management and creative teams.
- Communication: Facilitate collaboration between creative, technical, and production teams to clarify Unreal's impact on timelines and budgets.
- Proven experience in CG supervision with strong hands-on expertise in Unreal Engine within a production environment.
- Experience with multi-tool workflows. Knowledge of best practices for transferring data between Unreal and traditional DCCs (Houdini/C4D/Maya), as well as tracking and managing those workflows.
- Expertise: Strong understanding of the 3D production pipeline (Modeling, Rigging, LookDev) and its adaptation to real-time environments.
- Version Control: Experience with version control systems such as Perforce or Git, particularly for managing large binary assets.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead teams through technological transitions. Experience building or implementing production pipelines.
- Ability to challenge existing tools and workflows.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to translate complex artistic concepts into efficient, budget-conscious technical solutions.
