Leadership of Technology Services is integral to the successful business operations of the organization. The role of Director of Technology Services will ensure streamlined operation of the corporate technology ecosystem in alignment with the business objectives and established Service Level Agreements.As a senior member of the Information Services department, reporting to the Head of Data Technology & Infrastructure, the incumbent's major areas of responsibility include:
  • Development Operations & Systems Administration
  • Infrastructure Services & Network Services
  • Cloud Services
  • Platform, Systems, and Integration
The Director of Technology Services is accountable for the planning, budgeting, sourcing, implementation and 7x24 operations of infrastructure and cloud technology in order to meet business needs, as defined and measured by service level agreements. The incumbent is also responsible for Enterprise Agreements and renewals with major Technology vendors (Microsoft, Nutanix, HP, Cisco, ISP) and ensuring effective and efficient use of such technology investments.This role will focus on management of systems and technology functional teams providing leadership and guidance on the implementation of new technologies and management of existing systems infrastructure. In a senior leadership role, the incumbent will be responsible for defining and ensuring the policies, procedures, and best practices for the Technology Services.Scope includes:
  • Core Infrastructure Services: Datacenter Facilities (UPS, HVAC, Rack and Cable Management), Physical Servers, Storage, Virtual Infrastructure Services
  • Platform Services: Virtual Servers and Operating Systems, Active Directory and Domain Services (DNS, DHCP, etc.), Environments, Systems, Database Administration, Integration Services
  • Cloud Services: Office 365 Administration, Azure, Cloud, Exchange Online
  • Network Services: Internet, WAN, WAAS, Routing, Switching, Firewalls, IPS, IDS, Load Balancing
The incumbent works with Servus stakeholder community (inclusive of vendors) and provides strategic leadership in the translation of Business objectives and critical success factors into actionable technology strategies. The position requires sound judgment, a services-oriented approach, cost awareness and considerable independence in decision making.The Director of Technology Services will be responsible for managing staffing requirements including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions of both internal and contract resources as appropriate.At all times, the incumbent will be responsible to balance necessary skill depth of functional teams to ensure adequate support of infrastructure services while ensuring the efficient use of resources and continuity of service from both an operational and project oriented perspective.What you’ll be doing:Core Infrastructure Services and Operations
  • Develops, implements and maintains a Strategic Framework for Corporate Systems Infrastructure.
  • Leads the development of departmental strategic and tactical goals to meet the requirements for corporate systems infrastructure requirements.
  • Participates in the development of IT strategies in collaboration with the IS Executive team.
  • Maintains awareness of current products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all infrastructure procurement and development efforts.
  • Performs the Major Incident Management role when there are major SLA breeches
Network Services infrastructure management
  • At a senior level, manages and sets priorities for the design, maintenance, development, and evaluation of network infrastructure systems.
  • Assesses effectiveness of network performance objectives and develop strategy for maintaining business expectations over the long term.
  • Ensures a network maintenance strategy is implemented in collaboration with technical architects and network operations.
Cloud Services
  • Ensures optimal use of Cloud services such as Office 365 and Azure cloud services.
  • Creates Organizational Cloud strategies in collaboration with Enterprise Architecture.
  • Defines action plans to increase the effectiveness of collaboration, reduce technology maintenance, and enable a mobile workforce.
  • Engages Technology and vendor partners to execute cloud adoption strategies and initiatives.
Enterprise Agreements and renewals
  • Responsible for Enterprise Agreements and renewals with major Technology vendors (Microsoft, Nutanix, HP, Cisco, ISP).
  • Collaborates with Business and IS Leaders to ensure effective and efficient use of such technology investments.
  • Works with vendors to gather resources and awareness of new product and service offerings that could benefit our business and organization.
  • Builds relationships and manage effective escalation with vendors and partners.
  • Ensures Servus has appropriate levels of support from vendors.
Leadership
  • Establishes relationships with all levels of the organization to communicate vision, share ideas and explore opportunities.
  • Assembles and lead high performing teams via effective communication, performance management, development plans (job coaching, structured development and skills training) and reward/recognition practices.
  • Formulates and executes strategies, plans, and decisions based on high-level, general direction.
  • Establishes a high performing team of internal resources and external partnerships.
  • Provides oversight and guidance to the leadership team in IS Operations.
  • Works with other IS Leaders to effectively deliver solutions and provide input that shapes a modern and effective IS ecosystem.
  • Guide your team leaders in the creation of career development and training plans for their teams
  • Conducts internal audits to measure and assure adherence to established standards.
  • Participates in leadership meetings and provide communication to team as appropriate.
  • Develops, submits and monitors annual budget for area.
Communication and Team Effectiveness
  • Fosters a culture of team collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Promotes active listening with team members.
  • Communicates clearly, both written and verbally.
  • Guides multiple competing strategic initiatives, manages own time and schedule, effectively control scope of work for self and the teams.
What you bring:Experience
  • 5 years of management experience in a medium to large sized organization.
  • At least 10 years of information technology experience.
  • 5 years experience managing or directing IT operational teams.
  • 5 years total experience in managing technology in three or more of the following areas:
  • Microsoft Domains, Office 365, Azure, Server Hardware, disaster recovery, business continuity management, ITIL process management, DevOps.
  • Experience in managing multiple technical teams is highly valuable.
  • Financial sector experience (preferably in banking) is considered an asset.
Education and Training
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma required in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems or equivalent.
  • A certificate in any of the areas supervised would be an asset.
Any other special requirements necessary to do the job:
  • Weekend or shift work, available to travel, etc.
  • The business may from time to time ask for department support for special projects and/or areas experiencing staff shortages. All employees may be asked to assist in areas of need during these times. These assignments could result in a change of hours, location, and/or travel.
