We offer a flexible work environment and support a sustainable life/work balance.GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOBReporting to the General Manager, Health & Safety, the Manager of Training is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the planning, design, implementation, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and operational training and development programs, including Ontario Common Core.This role operates at both a corporate and field level, ensuring training programs align with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Cementation's operational goals. The Manager of Training collaborates closely with Health & Safety, Operations, and Project teams to support workforce competency, safe production, and a culture of continuous learning across all projects.The role is accountable for the development and sustainment of a competency-based training framework, ensuring employees possess the skills, knowledge, and qualifications required to perform work safely and effectively in underground environments.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITESHealth & Safety
- Work in compliance with all health and safety policies and the OHSA and applicable regulations.
- Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring all training programs reinforce safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
- Identify and report health and safety hazards or infractions observed during training activities to the Health and Safety Department.
- Ensure all training programs meet regulatory requirements, including Ontario Common Core and applicable jurisdictional standards.
- Provide technical expertise and support related to health and safety training to project teams.
- Support the development and maintenance of competency standards aligned with safe work practices in underground environments.
- Collaborate with Health and Safety, Operations, and site management to assess training and development needs; develop and execute training strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a company-wide competency-based training framework.
- Plan, design, deliver, and audit training programs, including classroom, field-based, and blended learning (in-person, virtual, and eLearning).
- Ensure compliance with Ontario Common Core standards, including maintaining or overseeing signing authority where applicable.
- Provide guidance and coaching to site managers and supervisors on training strategies, on-the-job learning, and knowledge transfer in surface and underground environments.
- Design and deliver classroom, field, and small group training sessions with a focus on practical application and skill development.
- Develop and maintain training materials, standards, and evaluation tools to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.
- Administer and continuously improve the company's Learning Management System (LMS), including tracking, reporting, and compliance monitoring.
- Lead course development initiatives, including digital content creation, eLearning modules, and modernization of training delivery methods.
- Incorporate innovative training approaches, including simulation, virtual reality, and emerging technologies where appropriate.
- Evaluate external training opportunities and manage third-party training providers to ensure alignment with Cementation standards.
- Monitor training effectiveness through audits, assessments, feedback, and performance metrics; provide regular reporting to management.
- Stay current with regulatory requirements, industry trends, and best practices; update training programs as required.
- Support workforce development initiatives, including apprenticeship programs, skills development, and structured knowledge transfer from experienced personnel.
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure training effectiveness, competency, and compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- This position requires frequent travel to project sites and offices
- Travel periods may range from one day to seven days
- Travel may include remote, underground, and international assignments
- Supervise the Training Coordinator and Skills Trainers
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to all members of the training team
- Support the development, mentoring, and succession planning of training personnel
- 5+ years of experience managing the planning, design, implementation, and delivery of training programs.
- Experience in mining, underground construction, or heavy industry is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of underground mining environments, with recent field experience considered a strong asset
- Experience administering Ontario Common Core programs, including acting as a signing authority, is highly desirable.
- Post-secondary education in Education, Adult Learning, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification such as CPTM (Certified Professional in Training Management), RPT (Registered Professional Trainer), or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Experience in an OH&S role, mining, or heavy equipment environment considered an asset.
- Professional designations such as CRSP, CSSE, or equivalent are considered assets.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), training databases, and eLearning course development is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and competency-based training.
- Demonstrated experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and training delivery (classroom, field, and digital).
- Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and course authoring tools.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, project stakeholders, and external partners.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and mentor others
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Knowledge of Ontario Common Core programs and applicable mining regulations is an asset.
- Ability to analyze training data and translate insights into actionable improvements.
- High level of professionalism, initiative, and adaptability in both corporate and field environments.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
