- Lead or support the design, planning and implementation of wetland and vegetation field programs, including wetland assessments and monitoring, vegetation inventories, soil assessments, and rare plant surveys;
- Conduct fieldwork in a safe, technically defensible, and efficient manner;
- Provide technical input on mitigation strategies, reclamation considerations, and regulatory approvals;
- Lead field crews and take ownership of crew safety, mentoring junior staff on safety and leading by example;
- Collaborate with wildlife, aquatics, and regulatory specialists on integrated project delivery;
- Provide mentorship to junior staff in both field and office settings, supporting their technical and professional development;
- Analyze field data to develop management and mitigation recommendations;
- Communicate clearly and succinctly (written and oral) to convey environmental considerations and results to clients;
- Develop regulatory applications and liaise between regulators and clients as required;
- Support, and in some cases lead, business development efforts through formal (e.g., proposal writing) and informal (e.g., networking events) avenues;
- Maintain technical skills through formal and on-the-job learning; and
- Work independently, including outside standard office hours when required, to meet project deadlines and client needs.
- B.Sc. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (candidates with a relevant technical diploma and considerable relevant work experience may be considered);
- Registered, or ability to register, as a Professional Agrologist and/or Biologist in Alberta and/or BC;
- Three to five-plus years (depending on the role) of relevant industry environmental experience (consulting experience preferred);
- Experience completing vegetation inventories and rare plant surveys;
- Strong plant identification skills and a desire to continue learning;
- Experience with wetland delineation and classifications;
- Soil classification experience;
- Experience using GIS software;
- Great communication skills and strong technical writing competencies;
- A self-starter who thrives in a demanding environment working both independently and as part of a remote, collaborative team

- Applicable technical and safety training certifications are considered assets;
- Comfortable learning and using new technology (and having fun while doing so!);
- Working knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation and policies;
- A desire to get hands dirty in the field and an ability to work remotely for extended periods;
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work through ambiguity, and anticipate challenges;
- Personality that prioritizes finding solutions, takes initiative to apply troubleshooting skills, and an ability to fix equipment when working remotely;
- Attention to detail and commitment to proper equipment care and maintenance;
- A strong track record in health and safety;
- Valid class 5 driver's license, clean driving record, and minimum 3 years auto insurance history;
- Excellent organizational skills and a strong sense of accountability; and
- An entrepreneurial spirit and interest in helping grow AJM's regional presence!
