Diversified Staffing Service, Alberta's leading staffing agency is currently looking for a Mechanical Designer/ Drafter.The Designer/Drafter will be responsible for assisting in detail modelling and drafting of finalized conceptual designs. This individual should be detail oriented, develop precise drawings that would convey the design intent to the users in a simple and clear manner. Working closely with the manufacturing team is imperative for success. As a natural progression complete design cycle needs to be handled as experience increases. Job Duties
  • Prepare engineering drawings, P&ID, major component specification, schematics and/or prototypes based upon pre-defined product requirements.
  • Analyze current product offerings to determine ways to improve quality, increase functionality, maintain aesthetic appeal and reduce cost of production.
  • Analyze and reverse-engineer physical components.
  • Evaluate physical and computerized drawings and prototypes for functionality, reliability and ease of manufacture.
  • Assist the project team with keeping drawings on schedule.
  • Provide constructive feedback about the components to the product engineer.
  • Research components, part suppliers and materials for suitability, durability, availability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Work within SOLIDWORKS Product Data Management system (PDM) to securely store design data and maintain version control.
  • Assist with the development of detailed product manufacturing instructions, schematic drawings and training materials for manufacturing,
  • Sales and use of products.
  • Oversee the testing and analysis of materials.
  • Stay current with industry trends as well as product development and sales methodologies.
  • Observe product related policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot product malfunctions/failures to prevent future concerns.
  • Assist other engineers with product development projects.
  • Process NCRs, as built drawings and other documentation.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
Required Skills
  • Diploma in appropriate field, e.g. (Mechanical/Manufacturing, Design and Drafting)
  • Working towards a professional designation like CET is desirable.
  • Expertise in Lean Manufacturing Techniques.
  • Experience of participation in a product development team from inception to manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of ISO9000.
  • Knowledge and execution experience of ERP systems, Control Plans, and Process Flow.
  • Proven ability to create and execute product development plans that have achieved the identified targets.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to produce succinct reports/presentations to communicate status of assigned projects/tasks.
  • A tenacious personality that will not let an issue be left unresolved.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Strong leadership abilities, able to lead effective meetings.
  • Quality Control background including problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Sound technical background (hands-on) with logical deductive reasoning approach.

  • Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD software packages
