- In conjunction with operating personnel (Facility Managers, Maintenance Supervisors, etc.) and through benchmarking analyses, identify and prioritize buildings requiring energy audits, and are energy outliers in the portfolio.
- Conduct energy analysis of utility and meter data, combined with site assessment of energy usage to determine energy end-use; provide assessment of existing systems, development of building-specific energy efficiency measures and associated savings calculations.
- Identifies buildings best suited for energy retrofit projects, and identifies opportunities for specific energy saving measures in buildings.
- Develops energy audit, re-commissioning and carbon neutral study scopes of work.
- Directs consultants throughout the development of audits, the re-commissioning process and the development of deep energy retrofit studies.
- Recommends energy retrofit projects based on their own assessment, or the results of the audits, re-commissioning process and carbon neutral studies.
- Directs the consultant and contractor throughout the feasibility study, design development, tendering, construction and commissioning phases of energy retrofit projects.
- Supports the project management team in the delivery of other projects that have an impact on energy consumption.
- Facilitates tenant communication and engagement.
- Able to develop good ROI energy projects for the annual capital investment funding.
- Able to identify carbon reduction projects for the annual net zero investment funding.
- Understand the business operations for identifying areas of opportunity.
- Implement efficiency measures involving the following specific responsibilities: energy efficiency program management including management of contractors and staff; develop budget and reports.
- Assist in development and oversight of operational efficiency measures, including retro-commissioning; analysis and efficiency measure development from MT&R strategies. Work with Facility Managers and on-site technical staff to drive implementation of operational (low/no cost) energy measures.
- Provide technical review and assessment of external consultant savings calculation methodology as well as technical and economic feasibilities and make recommendations.
- Assist in the measurement and verification of energy savings measures.
- Conducts energy assessments when energy consumption varies significantly from expected performance.
- Participates in the development of the building management plan.
- Works closely with building technicians to ensure continuous commissioning and energy performance improvement of building systems.
- Develops and maintain a building improvement tracking system.
- Develops and lead building energy saving committees at targeted facilities.
- Identifies, implementing and tracking energy saving challenges and opportunities.
- Provides a venue for technicians to share experience.
- Educates technicians in energy saving practices and technologies.
- Reviews building performance reports.
- Develops new practices to improve energy performance.
- Implements and maintains sub-metering and measurement and verification systems.
- Monitors energy retrofit project performance and intervene when systems are under-performing.
- Interprets and translates implications of global GHG standards and targets into strategic information processes and actionable facility management metrics.
- Designs and develops technical requirements for GHG reporting and analysis.
- Guides development of new and enhanced value-added sustainability and GHG offerings to the facility management marketplace.
- Supports resources and schedule the delivery of internal and external energy reports.
- Supports the Client Facing Teams with their energy reporting needs.
- Able to do energy planning using different scenarios for energy reduction including Business as Usual scenario.
- Experience with data interpretation and analysis at minimum using EXCL or other specialized software.
- Understand energy financial modelling to develop ROI and cashflow of energy projects.
- Coordinate training/energy awareness initiatives for staff on relevant energy topics.
- Act as a resource to management and field staff in regard to energy management.
- Other duties as required.
- University degree in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and Professional Engineer Designation with minimum 5 years' experience in the energy management, with a thorough background in utility markets, building optimization/controls, and building systems.
- Project Management experience related to the development and implementation of energy retrofits or programs.
- Experience in conducting Measurement and Verification per IPMVP an asset.
- Sound knowledge of economic analysis tools (Life-cycle cost analysis, ROI, NPV, payback).
- Ability to work independently, self-starter, and can work with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of Data Centres
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with people across multi-disciplines to ensure program adoption and implementation.

- Proficiency in report writing and in using MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access).
