MissionWe are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working individual to join our dynamic CIMA+ team and actively contribute to our growing transportation and infrastructure planning practice in OntarioWe are seeking an Environmental Planner who is building their career and practice with a keen interest in transportation and infrastructure planning, and engagement of the public, agencies, and Indigenous Communities.You will have the opportunity to take part in our hybrid work model that includes flexible work hours, working from home and in one of our Ontario offices (Burlington, London, Kitchener, Toronto, Bowmanville).Primary Responsibilities
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team of technical / professional staff and subconsultants in the delivery of our projects. This involves collaboration, project coordination, communication, and delivery. Our work includes multi-modal mobility and safety strategies, policy and guidance documents, feasibility studies, master plans (transportation, active transportation, trails, etc.), environmental assessments and detailed design projects.
  • Provide planning support to projects which can involve many aspects including: review and synthesis of background information, plan and policy review to develop planning/policy context; network or facility planning, assembling technical team inputs to multi-factor assessment and evaluation of alternatives, impact assessment and mitigation. Requires familiarity with legislation, regulatory framework, plans and policies related to growth, land use and transportation planning, heritage, and natural environment.
  • Coordinate IAP2-based engagement programs. Hands-on strategy development and coordination of all aspects of outreach/information sharing/collaboration, managing stakeholder databases, tracking, coordinating response preparation, preparation of materials, presentations, and documentation.
  • Prepare a variety of written documents including literature reviews, policy scans, Environmental Study Reports, Project Files, Master Plan documents, background reviews with a focus on preparing public-facing reports including accessibility considerations and requirements.
  • Liaise with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Contribute to building our business by reviewing client Request for Proposal documents and preparing proposals inputs including reviewing background materials and collaborating with the team in developing the project understanding, risks, winning strategies.
  • Profile
  • University Degree in planning, environmental science, geography or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, with some in consulting.
  • Interpersonal skills and team spirit.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Superior skills in MS Office programs for report and presentation preparation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of planning and design process for transportation, transit and other infrastructure.
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental assessment legislation and environmental assessment processes including Municipal Class EA, MTO Class EA, Transit Project Assessment Process, etc.
  • Familiarity with municipal planning approaches, policy and legislation in the context of infrastructure planning for complete streets / complete communities.
  • Experience coordinating multifaceted engagement programs utilizing a variety of tailored tactics and communication modes, including interfacing with client communications staff.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Conservation Authorities, etc., is considered an asset.
  • Designation or intent to pursue designation as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP), and/or Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP), or Environmental Professional (EP).
  • A valid Ontario Driver's License and ability to travel to various sites, offices is an asset.
