- Supervise and manage drill crews to ensure the successful operation and completion of drilling programs.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and employees on site.
- Conduct daily safety meetings with crew and clients.
- Communicate with the PM daily or as frequently as the project requires to be successful.
- Utilize technical knowledge of drill rigs to assist in troubleshooting and specialized tasks.
- Know, understand, comply and enforce HSE requirements to all site employees and subcontractors.
- Coordinate, review and deliver employee training as trained to do.
- Strategically mentor and identify high potential employees.
- Complete all incident reports and investigations with assistance from HSE staff.
- Prepare daily reports of all drilling activities.
- Accommodate and facilitate change at the request of the client, company or if better/best practices are determined.
- Complete routine drill audits planned job observations (PJO’s) and pre and post hole inspections.
- Occasionally drill as required to assist drill teams and ensure overall project completion.
- Monitor instruments such as pressure gauges, feed or weight indicators as well as observe the volume, colour and consistency of the returns from the hole.
- Record keeping as required/requested by the client and or company.
- Operate and troubleshoot drill and ancillary equipment, including, but not limited to; trucks, support vehicles, pumps, heaters, compressors, etc.
- Ensure drill assistants maintains and organizes equipment, supplies and tooling for the drill rig and support vehicles.
- Must maintain and possess a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Must have 10+ years experience in Geotechnical Drilling.
- ITA certified, or able to obtain certification within 6 months of onboarding
- Must be comfortable with computers and technology, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Have the mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair small equipment.
- Complete and pass a pre-employment and client required pre-access drug & alcohol test.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
