Excavation - Class 1 Driver

• Operate and drive primarily tractor-trailer, tandem vehicles and straight-body trucks to transport goods and materials mainly on local and short-haul routes; may drive special purpose trucks such as sand truck, concrete mixer, or dump trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, enroute and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle such as condition of equipment.
• Ensure cargo is secured properly in accordance with safety requirements and follow safety procedures for transporting goods.
• Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption, administer bills of lading, and manually or electronically maintain log.
• Perform general labour duties on occasion to assist project crews.

• Demonstrated work experience as a Class 1 Driver.
• Practical experience with electronic/cellular equipment and software.
• Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly.
• Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
• Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc.)
• Valid Class 1 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
• Mechanical skills to correctly identify equipment issues.
• Strong attention to detail (aware and observant) always to notice anything that may compromise job safety or construction tasks.

• Work is performed in a vehicle and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Occasional heavy labour.
• 10 hour shifts standard; some weekend work may be required.
• This is a seasonal, full-time position that may lead into a year-round opportunity.
• Wage is dependent upon experience.
