- Lead enterprise-wide tax governance across the ATCO Group, ensuring tax-related responsibilities are met in every operating jurisdiction
- Drive efficient, accurate, and timely tax compliance, overseeing returns, filings, and remittances across income, indirect, and property tax
- Develop risk management strategies and lead audits, disputes, and appeals, building transparent, professional relationships with auditors and tax authorities
- Lead tax planning that supports business strategy, including minimizing tax expense across continuing operations and M&A, and designing internal reorganizations that maximize access to ATCO's tax attributes
- Partner with leaders across ATCO business lines to provide clear guidance on tax implications, develop innovative solutions within regulatory frameworks, and deliver compelling briefings and presentations that explain or defend ATCO's positions
- Represent ATCO externally with advisors, the Canada Revenue Agency, the Department of Finance, and other tax authorities; and, with Government Relations, help influence tax legislation, while contributing to the broader tax community through industry groups
- Build and lead a high-performing, inclusive tax team; recruiting and onboarding talent, coaching and developing individuals, setting clear accountability, managing capacity and priorities, and partnering with your HR Business Partner to ensure alignment with HR practices and standards
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- 15+ years of progressive tax experience in complex, multi-jurisdictional environments, with a significant portion at a senior leadership level
- A professional Canadian accounting designation (CPA)
- Completion of the CPA Canada in-depth income tax program
- Advanced knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax, working knowledge of international tax principals and the ability to manage diverse client needs
- Understanding of indirect taxes, property taxes, sufficient to provide enterprise oversight and risk governance, tax risk management, compliance frameworks, and audit processes
- Demonstrated experience managing audits/disputes and external advisors
- Knowledge of tax governance models, policy development, and internal controls in a complex corporate environment
- Strong understanding of how tax intersects with M&A, corporate restructuring, financing and business strategy
- Familiarity with regulatory engagement (CRA, Department of Finance and other tax authorities) and the role of government relations in influencing legislation
- Proven ability to lead, develop, mentor and retain a specialized team of tax professionals
- Highly effective relationship-builder with regulators, external advisors, auditors and industry peers
- Strong collaboration skills in order to partner across business units and ATCO companies
