As a Senior Commercial Underwriter, you will play a key role in shaping the company's risk portfolio and fostering strong relationships with brokers and industry partners.This role is based full-time on-site in Vancouver, BC, offering an engaging office environment that fosters teamwork and professional development.Key ResponsibilitiesAs the Senior Commercial Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing, analyzing, and managing commercial property and liability risks while maintaining profitability and compliance. Your responsibilities will include:Risk Assessment & Underwriting:
  • Evaluate and underwrite mid-to-large commercial property and casualty risks, ensuring alignment with company guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Utilize analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex risks and determine appropriate coverage terms, pricing, and conditions.
Broker & Client Relations:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, providing expert advice and guidance on risk placement and underwriting solutions.
  • Act as a trusted resource, responding to broker inquiries, negotiating terms, and ensuring a high level of customer service.
Portfolio & Policy Management:
  • Manage a diverse commercial underwriting portfolio, ensuring profitability and adherence to underwriting standards.
  • Review and assess policy renewals, endorsements, and claims history to maintain a balanced risk portfolio.
Strategic & Process Improvement:
  • Collaborate with internal teams to enhance underwriting processes, guidelines, and workflows.
  • Stay informed about market trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes to ensure competitive and compliant underwriting practices.
QualificationsTo excel in this role, candidates should possess the following:Education & Experience:
  • A degree or diploma in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably in property and casualty insurance.
  • A Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation is an asset.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of commercial underwriting principles, risk assessment, and industry regulations.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and tools to evaluate and price risks effectively.

  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities to foster broker relationships.
