  • A PhD in Italian Studies or a closely related field is required.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Italian.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain Italian grammar clearly and concisely using appropriate examples in Italian.
  • Demonstrated ability to describe and explain aspects of Italian culture with appropriate comparisons to the North American cultural context.
  • Previous experience teaching beginner-level Italian language courses.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Extensive and demonstrated excellence in teaching, and designing, language courses in a variety of academic contexts is preferred.
  • Previous experience in teaching this or similar courses or equivalent is preferred.
Description of duties:
Duties include consulting with the current course coordinator to ensure that course content, assessment practices, and progression are consistent with the existing course and aligned with the Italian language course sequence; designing the syllabus for a course delivered using a flipped-classroom model; preparing course materials, including a series of instructional videos to support the asynchronous components of the course; delivering course content; preparing tests, assignments, and examinations; administering written and oral assignments, tests, and examinations; developing evaluation rubrics and assessment criteria and using them to mark and assess written and oral assignments, tests, examinations, and class participation in accordance with established university grading standards; calculating and submitting final grades; holding regular office hours; and managing course communication and grade records on the course management system.Application instructions: All individuals interested in this position must submit an updated Curriculum Vitae, evidence of teaching in the relevant area (including student evaluations, if available), and the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 application form (available at ) by email to .This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.
