- Responsible for the retirement community's ongoing growth and management, including all aspects of restaurant operations, sales management, budget, and resident and employee relations.
- This position ensures a high-quality dining experience is consistently available to all residents and guests of the community.
- Under the direction of the General Manager, provides dedicated staffing and scheduling support to one or more sites as directed.
- Schedules replacement staff for all planned paid time off, unplanned paid time off, and leaves of absence (as per set staffing requirements approved by site management).
- Supports managers with staffing and scheduling functions for unscheduled absences (sick leave, non-occupational illness/injury) and workload requirements following the master rotation and provisions of the collective agreement. Ensure this process is validated and done accurately and timely following the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Respond to emergency calls from residents and take appropriate action as needed.
- Ensure the continuous operation of the community and perform any staff duties necessary for coverage.
- Establish and maintain an enriching and secure environment for the benefit of the residents.
- Verifies staffing requirements against the current schedule. Monitor staff availability and inform site management of unfilled vacancies.
- Report to management reasons for absence (implement time away from work report) for attendance management tracking purposes.
- Accurately records and verifies actual scheduling data (in the time and attendance system) daily in preparation for the bi-weekly payroll submission, as approved.
- Maintains master rotations, weekly schedules, call-in sheets, and approved leave requests.
- Collects all casual call-in availability and develops a relationship with casuals for scheduling. Ensures seniority lists are maintained, including movement based on Appendix 2- canceled shifts and available for short notice call-ins.
- Under the direction of the General Manager, supervises and provides leadership for the dining services team.
- Fosters and promotes new initiatives; implements policies and procedures; schedules and assigns work; and monitors and evaluates service delivery.
- Participate in the planning and prioritizing of both short-term and long-term service goals.
- Coordinates all daily operations in the dining areas (including wine bar and sports lounge).
- Collaborates with the General Manager and Chef to ensure excellent customer service during special events hosted by the Lakeside Manor Retirement Residence.
- Collaborates with the General Manager and Chef to develop, revise, and evaluate hospitality service delivery within the dining area. .
- Obtain input from residents and guests, disseminate information related to hospitality services, and participate in Chef Meetings to improve dining services.
- Responsible for the training, staff development, performance management, and mentorship of all serving staff.
- Directs staff during meal service and maintains service consistency while exceeding guest and tenant expectations.
- Openness to change and ability to effectively communicate innovative ideas to the dining service team.
- All other duties as assigned
- Serving it Right and FOODSAFE - level I certifications preferred.
- Certification or equivalent combination of experience, education, and knowledge (ideally two years) in the independent care or hospitality industry.
- Experience in staff training, education, staff development, performance management, and mentorship of a serving team.
- Two years’ experience supervising a fine dining or full-service retirement environment preferred.
- Prior restaurant experience as an asset.
- Experience working with MS Office, i.e., Excel, Word, and Outlook is preferred.
- Strong English language skills and understanding of medical terminology an asset.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Able to multi-task, handle changing priorities, and work under pressure.
- Friendly disposition, personable, and easily able to build harmonious working relationships with residents, families, colleagues, business partners, and members of the general public.
- Staffing and scheduling experience in a 24-hour environment is an asset.
- Strong Leadership skills: demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others is required.
- Strong Sales background is an asset.
- Demonstrates good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
